This is an interesting option. Assuming it is a one game (no return game) series I see it as a net positive long term but what does it do to our psyche as a team?

+ It gives us great exposure and brand recognition. It raises our profile among the high sch-ool recruits in the midwest. This is a long term positive.
+ It puts us on more TV sets (even just the score on the ribbon below every game in America).
+ It gives our guys another chance to see up close and personal what kind of commitment it takes to truly be a top level FBS program.

-It could demoralize a team going into the 2nd half of our schedule and with another couple of P5 schools coming up.
-Are we deep enough to survive injuries that are sure to come in such a mismatch? I am thinking particularly along the O and D lines. A couple of injuries there and the 2nd half of our season gets ugly.

Overall, I think we should see it as a great opportunity and roll the dice to make this happen.

Nebraska isn’t half of what Auburn is - more along the lines of what UVA is talent wise ( wont be long until they are much better under Frost ) but if you are going to play Nebraska - this is the year - new system, talent level down, etc. I think eliminating 2 trips to NM back to back will actually be better for the team physically than any downside to playing Nebraska.

Eliminates the 2 successive trips to NM in 7 days. we don’t have room for Nebraska in Lynchburg to even float a 2 for 1 - they bring an extra 20k fans to Oklahoma who don’t have tickets and just want to tailgate and be around the game...definitely a 1 off but I am all for it.

You make a good point. Lynchburg wouldn't have enough rooms to make that game possible. BUT it would make for a cool ariel shot since you'd have about 35k people all in red, even though a third of them are Nebraska fans.

So this is not just some message board rumor/suggestion but their reporters are discussing it...interesting.

It is a real possibility. If NMSU had legitimate bowl aspirations it might be tough to pull off with us buying our way out of that regular season finale. But after thumpings in their first two games, I suspect that is not the issue for the Aggies that it might have been back in Mid-August.

I actually think the plan is

NMSU and Akron Play September 29(Akron's Current Bye)
NMSU Moves Bye to October 6
Liberty Moves Bye to October 6
Liberty Plays Nebraska October 27(Nebraska's Current Bye)

Ian has to be on this already, I'd imagine. What an upgrade! I'd think it's a no-brainer if NU wants to do it. It also gives the NU local media another storyline with the TG connection. It seems too obvious. I'd love to see this.

Everyone keeps the same amount of home games too.

Wouldn't it just make more sense for New Mexico (not NMSU) use their current bye week to play Akron and we take the Nebraska date on our open date?

Well, no one except for Nebraska and Akron would lose a bye week if it is done through NMSU/Liberty. It would also mean no one has to play 13 games.

My suggestion would have us not play New Mexico. We'd trade playing New Mexico for playing Nebraska and they'd trade playing us for playing Akron. Everyone would still get a bye week and play 12 games.

Aha! So there is more than one way to get this done. I really hope this is in talks right now. It would be about the only thing that could help recoup the Scott Frost buzz that sent Nebraska's ticket prices up is to go against Turner Gill. The story line from 9/1 for the Cornhuskers is gone on 9/8.

Just some more info. I’m in Sioux Falls, SD (Nebraska Country) and this is all over the radio. The sport broadcasters here seem to think it’s either Liberty or no game.

One thing to keep in mind is the role Ron Brown could have in this. Not just in the possibility of him discussing this option but should we end up playing them, the role he would have in helping Nebraska prepare to play us.

While this is fun to talk about, is this something we should even be interested in?

Is giving up a winnable game worth getting killed by a P5?

What would make it worth it?
