So for some Reason my internet has been down at the house and i have missed this topic...

I think he should have been benched much longer, Even if you want to totally disreguard the fact that he missed the bus, 1-11 in the First half against Winthrop? and he takes terrible shots all the time? Bench him for a little bit and see how we can do.

I think it should've been a game. It doesn't matter who it was, if you miss the bus, you miss the game.

Is the rule, "If you miss the bus, but you can drive and get to the game by your own means, then you can play, you just won't start?"

There's got to be a steadfast rule.

The other thing that gets lost in all of this is Alex broke a team rule and was benched for the same amount of time as Larry. I don't know what he did though.

I understand your point SJ....i really do, I am not changing my vote or anything since the question was what your opinion was, so I gave my opinion...and you have yours...

In all reality none of us know enough to information about the rules on this kind of thing or the actual reason for LB being late...and we never will, so its really hard to come up with an educated response to this question...

Why does it matter the reason for him being late?

because it could've been a seriously legit reason, you don't know...I am not saying it was or wasn't, but neither of us know...

SJ are you alright?? you seem more opinionated then usual tonight

I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of driving 2+ hours right after class and not getting back til 1am only to have class the next day just to see us blow another game. I feel like we deserve more. We've lost ten of eleven. We haven't won a road game in over two years. I didn't even know of LU the last time we won a road game. I've sold out for this team and I'd like to see a win occasionally.

yeah...i understand, it sucks...and you for sure do more to support these teams then anybody I know...i was checking to make sure it wasn't something i said or something, because it seems like everything i say you have a response to...but I understand where you are coming from and I think we are kind of all feeling like that...sick of losing...but with all the time and money you invest I am sure you are feeling it more....

anyways...this LB thing is just another thing to add to the list of disappointments this year for this team, regardless of your opinion of what the punishment should have been the fact is its just disappointing and i wish it hadn't of happend

I may only be a student, but we still have a voice. We don't need to just say, "He sucks, he should be fired." As with anything else, if we, as the students, do our homework and form an intelligent opinion and give facts, we should be listened to. I've tried to keep everything to facts. Granted, I brought the Brew thing up and there are still two conflicting stories going around about that.

Coach Dunton lied to my face in the first conversation we ever had. The man looked me square in the eye and lied to my face. I've kept that off of the board, but if you want to know why I've been passionate about this, it's because of that. How am I supposed to respect a man who looks me square in the eye and lies to me?

Yeah, this whole freaking program has been crap the past 2 years...no discipline, lack of commitment from players and a coach that seems to let his emotions get the best of him...he knows his stuff, but like I have said in the past, I don't think he is cut out to coach D1 basketball...but that is for another day...

I don't know what he lied to you about, and chances are you aren't going to post that for the world to see...but I am guessing you know for a fact that he lied to you...that is very disappointing...

I'll tell you exactly what he lied to me about.

He told me a lot of students don't like him because they think he cusses all of the time. Then he looked me in the eye and said he'd never cussed before in a game. He said he may have said "frappin" or "gosh darn it" but never a cuss word. I sat behind the bench against Winthrop and against HPU and heard him say multiple cuss words.

Now, everyone knows that I have no problem with a few words coming out during a basketball game. It happens. Your emotions get the best of you and something slips. However, he flat out looked me in the eye and lied to me.

wow...i can't believe that is what he told you....i remember back freshmen year all of us joking about how much he cussed...we use to laugh about it all the time...that is one of the reasons people don't like him...I always thought it was funny...but the fact he told you he never does is neatly comical...why would he say that when everybody knows he swears...well everybody in ear shot of him....dumb...

I wanted to believe him and I tried to believe him because I know what looks like a cuss word on your lips may not be. Then I heard it for myself and lost respect for him.

I even posted it on here that I heard him cuss. And I will agree this team lacks discipline. There is NOTHING anyone could tell me about someone doing something that would shock me except LB or Russ, those two seem pretty well-behaved.

i'd say make the whole team suffer even more without LB in that game vs HP. We can't win with him anyway let alone on the road.

how about we get like 4 or 5 guys together from flame fans to take over coaching responsibilities for the rest of the season and see what happens....that is the best idea yet...we can start the voting now...no lying aloud, and no being late for the team bus

I am not gonna put myself out there as a coach so you guys can "flame" me night after night. I told Smoothie and some others that I will never ever coach again. I enjoyed coaching at Liberty because we had really good players and won a ton of games but it really affects your life when you don't reach your goals. It took months, even years to get over the 97 final game loss which ultimately was Jeff Meyer's last game...and mine. I had some discipline issues come up when I was a head coach back when I was still a youngster and I had to make a difficult decision. We had an awful team so it didn't matter but I ended up kicking my 2 top scorers off the team for the last 7 games because they were selfish and would not listen. We got beat 85-15 one night during that stretch but to this day, the players that remained thank me for doing the right thing even though we were getting destroyed on the court....I shared that story to say this. LB was late, he was punished by not starting. The length of time he should have been on the bench will vary for every coach you ask, from 1 minute to 1 full game. IMO He should have sat at least 10 minutes and if ACE had a disciplinary issue he probably should have sat a whole half. But it is hard looking in from the outside. If I had inside info I could make a better judgement call. Let me say this as well. If we were winning and this happened or even if we won the game last night we probably wouldn't be talking about this for so long. I hope it turns around soon because these threads are starting to get depressing. I have a friend that reads but doesn't post and he told me that he had to stay away from the boards for a few days just to get his spirits back up...And no that "friend" was not Randy Dunton  .

Oh I think we all know, but don't want to say that SCAR's discipline problems were a result of HIS leadership :D :D If a man can not discipline his hair to stay in then how can he expect his HS basketball players to play unselfishly!!

As for LB I agree with those who say we need to know why he was late. If is was a "legitimate" reason than a "token" (read 2 min) benching is more than appropriate. If not, then those are the types of benching I hated. Our coach did that one time in college with our "star" player. Missed a pre game and the bus but was at the gym when we arrived. He had spent the evening with his "girlfriend and parents". Coach benched him, then after the tip sent him to the table. That obviously didn't go over well with the team. The next day, after we had a chance to cool, a group of players went to the coach and said that we didn't like how he handled it. It was a great talk. He had some mixed feeling obviously, but gave in to the desire to win over the desire to do what was "right". He benched him the first half the next game. And the next couple years, he had a stated policy that he only had to enforce once. Did I mention I STILL admire my old college coach? And no it wasn't SCAR.

If LB drives like Scar, maybe he got to the HPU gym BEFORE Dunton's team bus with the rest of the players. If so, how can you bench a player who arrives at the game BEFORE the coach? :D
