Larry Blair missed the bus. He had to drive to High Point for the game. That is fact. There is no arguing those two points.

He was benched for 2 minutes and 47 seconds.

How long should he have been benched for?

Vote and discuss.

It really depends on why he missed the team bus, which I am guessing we will never know...with the limited info we know I say the 1st half...I know we were losing, but i just think that is what should have been done...another bit of information that would be nice to have would be did Coach tell him how long he was going to sit? Or was it just kind of, you're not starting kind of a thing...

anyways...there really is too many unknowns to say for sure...but from all we know now I say the first half is what the punishment should have been

Send a message. Demonstrate some of that integrity you always talk about and bench him for the whole game. I guess that would be way to much to ask, though.

From what I understand, he was just simply late.

And like I've said before, you've never been late for something? Recorded or not, this is his first documented incident while wearing a LU uniform.

If LB is benched, we lose by a lot more than we did. Unfortauntly, LU's success banks on LB. Nobody else can carry this team.

How can we vote if we don't know WHY Blair was 10 minutes late that caused him to miss the bus?

If it was what a professor would call an "unexcused absence" (such as oversleeping), I would have benched him for the entire game. The whole team SHOULD suffer if your senior team captain misses the bus for an invalid reason (if it was in invalid).
From what I understand, he was just simply late.
If that's the case, LB should have sat for the entire game--out of uniform--at the END of the bench.

What kind of message does sitting 2 minutes demonstrate? It shows that Larry the player is more important than the team and the coach. Like I said earlier, Bobby Knight would NOT have tolerated it.

Oversleeping is an excused absence?

I'm not going to my 7:50s.

Unless he was saving a baby from a burning house, it shouldn't matter why he was late. He was late. If it was Russ or Dominique or Armon he would've been suspended for a game at the very least.

Coach preaches integrity, he could've actually shown some last night.

Jim--you are correct. We don't know. If he was late without a very good reason, he sits. He's the captain. He has to be made the example--and accept it without argument. I'm not ripping Larry, because we just don't know, but most any coach I have heard of, if you miss the bus, its too bad.

i think we have all be late for something before, but there are certain things in life that you just can't be late to, and for athletes you can't be late for the team bus, they know this, so therfor there should be a punishment...if you were late for a job interview or any other important meeting you would either not get the job, or be in bad standing with your current employer if it were a meeting

you may be late from time to time to church or class or whatever...but certain things require you to be on time and this is one of them especially for someone that is suppose to be a leader on this team, which he isn't because he has no leadership skills, this is not a shot on him, he is very talented, but just because you have talent doesn't mean you are automatically a leader

If you're going to by that logic, several of these guys break Liberty rules all the time and nothing is ever done about it. Shouldn't the whole team be suspended?

Bobby Knight suspended his best player for MISSING CLASS.

Sometimes you have to set an example.

Ok. Then suspend the whole team for breaking LU rules.

I know that they probably have broken rules, we all have broken LU rules...but we don't KNOW the rules they have broken...word of mouth holds no merit, especially here at Liberty where words get twisted all the time and rumors begin to form so fast so lets just stop assuming they have broken all these rules...assumption holds no merit....

Just because you don't KNOW, doesn't mean others don't.

Silly me. What could have I been thinking of. You are absolutely correct, TD.

Heck, Maybe that is the ROOT of the problem with the team. They are not held accountable. About time the coach is held accountable for it all, too. Had he been, then maybe we would not have the apparant mess we have right now.

My comment wasn't directed toward you, A.G., but you're correct. No one is being held accountable. Probably the root of this mess.

haha...ok man...whatever...I know others know, I'm not an idiot...I didn't realize I was talking with such an expert....

basically it comes down to this, I am sure the team is told they can not be late to a team bus for road trips, if this happens they won't start or their play will be deminished, i am sure they know this coming in....but we do not know what the policy is on that...if it were my team it would be 1st half the first time and it would keep buillding from there...but nobody knows what the policy is....but i am sure one is in place and that is why Larry didn't star...

Postman,

What happens if this game was at CSU instead of HPU? What happens if it was the Buffalo game?

There's no way LB would've been able to make it to those games on time. He was lucky it was only a 2 hour and 20 minute drive (or two hours the way TBGBG drove down there).

If this game wasn't so close, LB wouldn't have even been able to get to it.

then he would miss the whole game SJ...pretty simple answer...

but that wasn't the case, so I say 1st half...and that would go for anybody, not just Larry...

He would've missed the entire game, right.

That's what he should've missed last night.

Sadly, thats not the case.. and as it was mentioned earlier, if this is Kyle Ohman, nobody is talking about it. This team does nothing without LB and Dunton's success as a coach is tied to LB.

Heck--it we are going to put a mediocre team on the floor--I'd sure rather it be with a bunch that abides by the rules. Maybe that is another reason the student body doesn't get behind them like we'd like.

Perhaps I'm getting soft in my middle age, but the fact he had to drive to High Point and go through indignity of the situation (not to mention being bashed on here) seems a pretty severe punishment to me. He doesn't have a long history of bad behavior that I'm aware of. Let bygones be bygones.

Then again, I'm just an Old Hag who was late for things on a regular basis when I was on campus back in the day.

Let's hope RD at least reimbursed Larry for his gas mileage, meals, and wear & tear on his vehicle.

Maybe he got to give a few cheerleaders a lift home in his ride. Or maybe he spent the night with his folks in Charlotte.
