It's not just a tough first season.

ALL coaches at this level look out for themselves. They HAVE to. If the perception is that one can't win there, it absolutely impacts the talent pool that is interested in it. "All those facilities and resources, and Turner couldn't get it done?! I wonder why he couldn't. Let's pump the brakes."

Liberty is a stepping stone. Be careful what you wish for (lifer), you just might get it.

Money talks though and liberty isn't shy about that.

Liberty will throw a crap ton of money at a coach who probsbly doesn't deserve it.

I'm just waiting go be proven wrong.

Lifer? Who wants a coach that no one else wants to hire away from them? We should want other universities to hire our coaches, a sign of being successful.

By lifer I mean someone who would be happy to be here for his career. Not looking to move on. Someone who would have to double his salary to leave. I mean an Ed Gomes type head coach. Or a Turner Gill who can actually coach.

That is news to me. And surprising given his proclamations about fulfilling the mission of Dr. Falwell. Care to explain the details?

So people really think Gill chose liberty? It is the best offer he had due to his failures. Kansas fans tried to warn us. I know I didn't listen.

What does next year's team have to play for anyway?
I would hope that they play for pride and hopefully the desire to win. Is that why they’re playing so dreadfully this year? Nothing to play for? If that’s the case it really shows the lack of leadership of Turner Gill.

If true, I hope the door DOES hit him on the way out. Makes you you wonder if he felt his seat was getting warm here and thought it best to leave first.

What failures? Don't you know he finished 4th in the Heisman voting? I heard he can cook a mean lasagna and is a good father as well. He has never said the F word either. sheeeesh.

Wish Gill would have ended up at JMU and we would have went after their present coach. Houston has been a winner everywhere he’s been. IMO I think he would be a good pick to go after.

That's a culture shock either direction. The two schools are as fundementally different as can be.

I never understood the appeal of Just Missed UVa.

Any guesses as to what salary we would be offering? Gill already makes about 100k more than Bill Clark, 400k more than Streeter, I think half of Venables. We go up to the 1.5 mil+ range???

You can, but when trying to sway a target, they may know the challenge ahead, do they wanna risk a whole lot knowing they might not even get paid for that risk?

If you are building the program, you aren't doing that on an incentive basis. Especially after this season. Down the road? Renewing? Sure. But not coming in.

I am sold on Brandon Streeter. Pull out the checkbook Jerry. Facilities are important. Good coaches and recruiters are paramount. Rocco won when our facilities were not as great as they are now. Stroke a check for at least a million with a $500,000 dollar incentive for a bowl game appearance. Be prepared to go higher. I think we have the money. Maybe hold off of putting seats in end zone. They want fill in anyway unless we have a quality team on the field. Street we can recruit and it is going to be ugly next year if we can’t get better up front. Yesterday was it for me. I have witnesses two weeks in a row a team that is just not motivated. That starts with the coach. He has lost the team. Period

I want Mike Houston from JMU. My bet is he’ll be at a P5 next year but I want him here. The man is 62-20 in his career as head coach. He flat out knows how to win.
