The N&A has had several write ups, with pictures, of Randy Dunton's son, who is a point guard over at Brookville High School. He seems to be one of the best players in the area, but is he good enough for D-1? If so, maybe LU could use him, since RD should have the inside track on recruiting him--"As long as you are living under my roof, you will be playing for LU..."

Do not think he is D 1. Think Cedarville is interested.

It probably depends a LOT on who is coaching our team, no? And thats not a slam- just being realistic.

he's had serious interest from about 3 D1 programs...JMU and a few others...I spoke with him about all of this and he's still leaning towards LU

Well, if little D can play for JMU, he could play for us, right?

I've heard before that he is a D1 talent and like PA said, it all depends on where Dad is.

Maybe little D will save RD's job for the next 4 years?

Yes, he is good enough to play for us...I heard one former liberty player compare him to a Ryan Mantlo...I'm very careful with that simply b/c Ryan's one of my favorite players to come through here but if he can come close to that type player then thats great news.

Little D's game has improved a lot since last season. I am not sure how much of an "impact" player he could be at the D1 level, but he could be a solid contributor. His "go to" move is about unstoppable (a two dribble move to the elbow for a pull up jumper, DEADLY) but he does struggle with more athletic players guarding him, but so do a lot of people. Not 100% sure he could be a full time point guard, but he could handle it for a few spells. Solid shooter but like most high school kids (JJ and Alford being two notable exceptions) he would move better when the ball isnt in his hands.
Plus he needs to LAY OFF THE FLOPS!!! :D Take it strong and eat the contact!!! (Just in case he looks at this, he'll know what I am saying!!)

I haven't seen him but if thats true, you can never have to many guys with an attitude and work ethic on the court like Mantlo.

Dunton can play and when he is on he is pretty hard to stop..I think he could play here but like Medic said I am sure that it all depends on who is here next year

Are we recuiting him? That whole scenario seems funny to me. Like Randy is talking to him trying to sell the school at the dinner table.

If little D signs here--and RD stays on--we could have a new slogan for next year: "All in the Family."

I was just thinking that, Rocket. I can think of two "Mantlo-esque" guys that came through here before he did. Mantlo was good but not exactly legendary, even by LU standards.

Manto's story is an interesting one: Hankinson was so old that Manto's mother was a college cheerleader in Mel's early coaching career; once said cheerleader married and had a son who eventually became college age, young Ryan transferred to LU so that he could play under the same legendary coach that his mom knew as a cheerleader.

It still baffles me how he is a legendary coach...and even wrote books for that matter!

Yeah, that's exactly right.... Except for the part that includes the facts.

Mantlo was playing for a JUCO school in Colorado (or Wyoming, I can't remember which one), when Hankinson was coaching LU. Hanky leaves, Dunton enters, Mantlo transfers.

Mantlo never played under Hanky.

Can somebody double check the chonology on Manto & Hankinson, because I remember Mel telling that story himself. In fact, Mantlo was such a gamer that after his basketball eligibity was over, I recall him trying out for Karcher's football team at LU as a defensive back.

It's true. Mantlo transferred in with Gabe.

Also, his football aspirations aren't as glorious as they sound according to some here.

To compare lil D to Mantlo is a travesty and whoever started that rumor should repent...Mantlo was a hard working defensive beast who spent as much time on the floor as the rest of the team combined. Not to say lil D isn't good, but he is in no way similar to Mantlo. He is a shooter, and a solid ball handler, but I would say a border line D 1 player. More like Freddy (the male model/bball player). But will pry get enough hype to play somewhere.

Great basketball player for us but his football aspirations lasted less than one day.
