Rick Pitino on mesage boards:
Jenkins could hear the talk locally about his slump, which may have contributed to even more tightness during games. In general, Pitino tries to steer his players away from local talk radio and internet message boards like CardinalSports.com.

"I don't know how much the internet plays in their lives, but I imagine it does," Pitino said. "I tell them don't let it be part of your life because there's nothing of value on there except to buy things and things like that. They can't, I hope, I know they have these myspace things that you really can't believe, but I hope they don't ever read message boards or things of that nature."

Especially when a team is struggling, reading the message boards can be a brutal proposition. Louisville players, known to frequent the boards at CardinalSports.com, have to be wary of getting too involved in fan chatter.

"I stole a line from a guy in radio show that my son told me ... he said message boards are unsuccessful people knocking successful people. I couldn't have thought of that any better," Pitino said. ".... I'm hoping they have way too much intelligence and they were raised too properly to read those things, I hope."

Hey, I'm just unsuccessful at most aspects of my life, you jerk, not all of them. I hope LU athletes are not dim enough to read this messageboard. Although I think some do. It's not like any good would come of it.

It gives us fans who aren't nearly as talented to have a place to discuss the teams we love. The players shouldn't read the board, and I feel the same as coaches, but we know coaches who do read it.

If I were a coach, I wouldn't read it either.

sounds like a typical retard who has one pentium II computer at home that he's fed up with because it is so chock full of porn spyware, because it should work fine because he bought it 5 years ago and he paid 2000 for it

you have no idea the amount of people that come in each day with this problem which they blame on their children...

they also think that message boards can steal your soul

I think most coaches to read it. Even if they say they don't. That's like those NFL coaches who say they dont read the sports section. Yes they do.

message boards can steal your soul but thats a whole other story

I see where they are coming from...none of us have had much success athletics wise so i mean there is some truth in that statement...but I think message boards also help with the excitement about the athletic program, it draws people in that wouldn't care otherwise...I think this is proven on flamefans all the time

regardless coaches and players need to stay away if they want to stay sane

Disagree. If they could, most coaches would burn the internet down just to get rid of message boards, that is if they're even aware that the message board exist. As far as the paper goes, I know some coaches who do read it and some who really don't. It just depends on the guy.

I know for a fact that most caoches I'm in contact with at the highest level of college sports follow recruiting throught he internet because they are limited in their feedback fromt he athletes and they use the boards to see which way the wind is blowing.

And I know for a fact that athletes read the boards at every school that have them. If people were talkign about you wouldn't you be interested in seeing it?

I know of at least one coach who has read the board and will probably read it in the spring.
