When this "coach" was first mentioned to me by a LU employee, I disagreed. But when he explained it to me, it made sense.
This is what I was referencing.

An LU employee told him, and then explained why. It doesn't sound like his source has it figured out but its more a theory.
Also 'Coach' is in parentheses. So maybe they aren't a coach who is actually coaching at the school they are currently coaching!!! The plot thickens!! :flamingdevil

Jim Tressel comes to mind.

Actually, outside of Morgantown, the rest of the world calls those quotation marks. :fineprint
Grammar Nazi. I was just happy I spelled it right

Jim Tressel isn't coaching anywhere as far as I recall. Isn't he the President at Youngstown St? So that would not fulfill ballboy's requirements of being a Top 5 Coach at a Top FBS program.

I'm just going to wait and see. We've had similar situations last year when it came to the subject of FBS. The shock and awe effect may as well be considered on this subject of a 'future' head coach. What is unfortunate is that coach Gill could not create full success instead of mediocrity for the football program. I do recall back seven or eight years ago abou TG becoming the possible coach for Auburn. It may not have been legit and just rumors going around, but as we know now , he didn't get the job. Did the Tigers knew something that we didn't know? I guess you could state his resume at the schools where he was head coach(although he won a conference championship with UB Bulls), however he is not looking good to be the coach to be leading LU into the FBS.

*side question* Is there a reason why many of you guys here on ASOR are not discussing topics on the Flames page on CSNBBS? I was just wondering this when I went on the page the other day.

To your side question: why? I've supported these guys and will continue to do so.

I was wondering if it was a page that had died off. I guess it's not active as much because it's the summer ('off season' for all sports).

I think most discussions take place here because it's 'Ours'. When there was ill fated talk of going to the SBC things got heated over there but for the most part we hang out over here. I imagine you will see people interact on team boards the weeks LU plays them

Saw that we have sold season tickets to 20 different states. Glad to see the that they are doing well. I wonder how that compares to other schools (FBS)?

I visit FF (aSoR) just about every day; for the other message board, I might go there once a week. Just not much personality or humor over there, but Sly Fox does post from time to time. :typing

Agreed. We have much better personalities on this board (I guess) Do they have BJ or ballcoach? I think not!

Before Gill was brought in I had conversations throughout email eith JB pushing for my high school coach Bill Clark. I'd be super excited if Gill is exited (which I don't hope for, I like him personally) for him to be considered again though he may be content at UAB and building that program for a bit.

You will hear of him soon enough. Great coach and well respected guy. Really had UAB going in the right direction before funding was pulled. Instead of jumping ship he stayed and fought to get the program reestablished.
For that reason, I don't think he will leave UAB for a while. Wouldn't be surprised if he waits for a power 5 job from here.

I had heard of Bill Clark before he went to UAB. But he will never be a candidate for LU. Not big enough name. Next coach will be a P5 Coach.

I just wish we could pull Tony Dungy off. Right character, big name, proven coach.

That is not the reality of the world we live in. Selecting our next coach is as much about recruiting with a flashy name and marketing "Look at where _____ is coaching" in the news as much as it is about their ability to execute on the field.

Liberty doesn't want to find a diamond in the rough right now. They want to PAY for a coach.

So are you changing your story? Are you saying 'A' P5 Coach? So now we are looking at any head coach from the ACC B1G PAC 12 Big 12 or SEC? Not just one of the Top 5 Coaches?
What next? 'A Coordinator from a P5 school'?

Been there, done that. Remember Coach Sam? Good coach, but we floundered. Find the very best coach who will come here. If he's a big name that's fine. We don't want 3-4 year progress at the expense of 15-20 year progress.

It could be legitimately argued that EVERY coach here has floundered

I don't know if the name told to me a couple of months ago, becomes a reality or not, but if it does,

I will get some eating place in town to cater a meal of crow, and invite several posters to a free meal.

before anyone shoots the messenger, the "name" did not originate on my radar screen.

What can you tell us about his coaching style. Offensive or Defensive mind? Are they recruiters or do they like the position coaches to do the leg work? I'll waste a little energy getting excited over a question mark.
