This is the Big South winning percentage since the 2003-2004 season (they didn't have the 02-03 season or I would've added that in).

Winthrop - .804
CCU - .569
HPU - .549
LU - .529
RU - .471
UNCA - .412
CSU - .333
VMI - .196

The 02-03 season would make that percentage higher, but I don't have the stats from every team so I don't want to put that in as well.

That's some good research, Jon.

I'll admit that Randy need to improve in order to stay here, and I'm sure he knows that.

I've always said I won't form an opinion until I know everything. Those stats are pretty hard to overcome.

Unless we go belly-up, my guess is that Dunton returns next year and he'll get another chance to get it done.

I'll go double or nothing with his butt is gone....and Mel Hankinson along with Jeff Meyer get a big laugh out of it...

Ok, a lot of the schools don't have information dating back to 2002 on their websites, but I did find enough on our site.

Coach Dunton's overall winning percentage (excluding the interim year) is .431 with an overall record of 59-78.

Coach Dunton's conference winning percentage (excluding the interim year) is .537 with an conference record of 36-31.

Thanks, Super, but you know Dutton is going to play the interim card as well--because that's the year when he beat UVa and Jeff Jones in U-Hall--so could somebody take Super's stats and add RD's interim year to it?

Cider, I'm already on it. It brings his overall winning percentage to .467.

Now, I'm all about putting things into perspective. Where does Coach Dunton rank all time at Liberty? I have the answer.

1) Jeff Meyer (1981-1997) - .557
2) Dale Gibson (1978-1981) - .510
3) Randy Dunton (1997-1998, 2002-present) - .467
4) Dan Manley (1972-1977) - .439
5) Mel Hankinson (1998-2002) - .319
6) Harley Swift (1977-1978) - .241

Thanks, Super--you're the man. I knew Mel was bad, but I had no idea how bad--only.319? After seeing those stats, I'm sure missing ole Jeffrey, but those "Fire Meyer" chants were just too strong at the end of his tenure with us. I wonder how our teams would have faired if Meyer would have stayed with us? Jeff is never coming back, but he sure did a better job than both Mel and RD.

In fairness, much of Jeff's success was at the Division II level.

Good point Sly, Dunton and Hankinson are the only coaches on that list with exclusive D-1 LU records.

As far as Meyer is concerned, the chants of "fire Meyer" date as far back as the Kenny Gunn and Eric Gordon days. So, I guess that element is always going to exist within the fan base, regardless of the situation. In fact, on firehouse, I found a post calling for Dunton's head that was dated during 2005 season and before Dunton had the opportunity to defend his Big South title.

As for as Dunton's winning percentage goes, we could hypothetically finish .500 this year, win 20 and the Big South tourney next year, and he'd still be several games below .500. The winning percentage tells only part of the story.

Personally, I'd like to see LU get to bowl status a little quicker and possibly join the MAC or maybe even Conf USA. That would create better opportunities across the board in terms of
talent and overall exposure for both football and basketball.

We can't win in the Big South, we'd get killed in the MAC or Conf USA.

So anyone seriously think that we will ever have a fan base big enough to be a D1-A football program? Don't you have to average something like 20.000 fans a game to go D1-A?
