Revenue for a 30k attended game might be something like this

Average ticket 20 dollars = 600k
Average concessions sold 5 dollars per person = 150k
Total = 750k

I'm sure we will also be paying Idaho State and Norfolk State, but probably not nearly as much. So far it looks like all our other FBS home games have 1 or more return games with no payout. It would be a flat out win if we can get back from Auburn and UVA what we are paying out to those 3 or even close to it.

Norfolk State's payout is 300k

I'm still waiting for Auburn to respond to my FOIA request, but Ian McCaw said Liberty essentially flipped its guarantee from Auburn to pay ODU to play the opener in Lynchburg, and in the process create a cascade effect that allowed Liberty to schedule eight future games.

Sounds like it is well worth the money we are paying to ODU. Not only did it allow for so many other games on our schedule, but ODU will bring a great crowd with them to fill the Bill.

Do they really think the Trump thing wasn't planned?

Liberty officials had planned to release their schedule later this spring, but President Trump forced their hand when he read the school’s future schedules aloud at Liberty’s graduation on Saturday.

This is a cheap price to get 8 games scheduled on short notice. Great for ODU, great for LU. Thankful ODU was willing to work with us. Whether you believe IM is guilty of something at Baylor or not he is proving why his AD skills are so highly and rightfully praised. Lots of creative thinking to get this done.

I'll just let you guys read this and make any comments. This idea is spread throughout the nation and I've seen this repetitive idea in the ODU forum. If this isn't biased with not credidable evidence, I don't know what is. Also, it all makes sense when one notice who wrote this article.
LU was desperate for games
LU is paying $1.3 million
It is one of the highest guarantees ever
LU has a $1 billion endowment
What do you have against Laura Wagner? I've never heard of her.

So there is credible evidence, or Facts if you will,

LU was desperate for games
  • Of which they got eight out of the deal
LU is paying $1.3 million
  • That breaks down to $165k per game
It is one of the highest guarantees ever
  • Not if you break it down per game
LU has a $1 billion endowment
  • News to me, I thought it was closer to $2B
What do you have against Laura Wagner? I've never heard of her.
  • Well, that entire article was a hit piece designed to play on the irrational hatred of LU

I agree about the breakdown per game. However, I was under the impression from the press release the LU was paying ODU $1.3 for 1 game.

Edit: ok I see where you are coming up with your number. It's creative math and assuming that LU gets all those return games AND isn't already paying for them.

Yeah, I'm not sure where they got that from. Both Ian and Mickey told me Monday that this was being planned for months.

Buffalo, UVa, and Army are all H-H or 2-1 so I would assume no payment for any of them.

Maybe they got it by watching on TV. It certainly appeared no one told the production crew. It seemed they were just randomly throwing teams up on the screen :D But yeah, there was no forcing of anything by Trump. Just forced laughter by Jr

I agree. I think if this is how it works out it will be a solid move. I'm skeptical of UVA showing up but they have about a decade to think it over :D

UVa will back out before '27 because we're going to beat them in their own house in '18 and '19.

Definitely a hit piece. Even if Sly Fox's Waco connections' story that "he was a victim" ends up being correct (which wouldn't surprise me), I don't see how we ever beat the media/perception on it. Perhaps if there is some really black and white findings in the current litigation, it would help some.

Ultimately, I get it though. After reading all these random forums about LU the past week, people don't know who Liberty is, or really care, so it's natural for them to take what 90% of the articles say at face value. Humans don't naturally care to know the truth, they want to believe what's convenient and fits best with the narrative they already hold. It's an uphill battle.

For what it's worth, I have yet to talk to someone that's actually connected in sports media, who takes Deadspin serious. They pick up some clicks from Twitter...but that's where their traction ends. At some point soon, I believe Univision will cut Deadspin and I don't see the site surviving. Point being, I wouldn't pay much attention to any article from DS. It's click-bait, "gotcha" media, and it's dying...rapidly.

Deadspin is full of SJW writers that are shills for the extreme left and the anti-football crowd. The're triggered by Trump at a Christian university promoting football. What a monster. They should just go back to their safespace stocked with lollipops and play-dough.

I really hope that there are more games on the horizon with ODU. Given our resources, and what that game actually means to this fan base and our school's history, along with the amount of schedule maneuvering that ODU had to do. We easily could and should have paid more than 1.32 Milly. Well done by Ian and Mickey for getting it done for a decent price.

Trump releasing the schedule was a highlight of a surprisingly good speech. I did not have to explain to the local watering hole attendees last night what Two Corinthians or any of the like was about.

Message board and National media aside, the VA folks I interact with and talk football, the majority of people see this as a win for LU. An ODU fan approached me yesterday at work, and was really excited about the game in Lynchburg. UVA fans that do not primarily hide behind the keyboard are equally excited about the in state FBS series that they should pick up FBS wins.

My last random thought about the scheduling. I hope that having top level programs come to Lynchburg to play football will bring the Lynchburg natives and locals. Ian has mentioned this as an area of concern and need to improve within the athletic department. With several years of separation, I think this could be the piece that brings the school and community together.

I had a weird conservation this morning. I was at an "undisclosed location" and some guy started talking football with me, mainly Virginia Tech. Then he started talking about LU, telling me he was LU fan. When he realized I knew more about LU than he did, he quit talking.
