Last night's game against Winthrop was a disaster, and while I'm glad that no one got to see it (less than 1300 in the stands), I have to wonder one thing:

Of all the weeks, why did the Big South schedule our two top rivals to come to the Vines on a week when our students aren't even allowed back in the dorms?

I mean, if we had a rowdy student section present for that game, then who knows? Maybe we only would have lost by 20.

It didn't matter how many people were there. We were outmatched.

I'll admit when I first heard about this I thought maybe it's Liberty's fault for having students come back so late (it seems like Liberty students get a pretty long Christmas break).

BUT, the more I think about it, the more I think you guys are right. It shouldn't be that hard for the Big South to make the basketball schedule fit better with the schedule's of the different schools. I'm sure it can't be as easy as I think it is, but schools should at least get to pick at least 1 school and have the BS not schedule that school while students are on break (example: Liberty could tell the Big South not to schedule Radford to play at Liberty while Liberty students are on break). I wouldn't think that would be too hard for the Big South to do. Then again...

the break is ridiculously long that is for sure....I would think that the big south would want the best attendance numbers they could get...i understand that they can't wait 5 weeks to have a conference home game...well kind of...but i think the guy above is right, it shouldn't be a big deal if each school was like, Please don't schedule this team during such and such time....people don't even realize Radford was a big rivalry at one time because i think the 3 out of the 4 years I have been here the home game has been during break....

and though we stunk last night, there is no way you can tell what a full student section could have done for our team...maybe it wouldn't of helped, but what hurt us the most yesterday was lack of energy from the very beginning....maybe with a bigger louder crowd there they would've had the energy from the start helping us to not fall back by 20 points in the first half...

I think a bigger crowd would have really helped you at the start of the 2nd half. There were a couple of plays where it looked like things could start to turn. I don't think that would have been enough to change the loss to a win, but it could have helped make it a game.

Has anyone from Liberty ever said anything to the Big South about the Radford game? I really can't see how it can be that hard for the Big South to keep you from playing at least that game at home while students are on break.

Originally we were scheduled to play Radford the last home game of the season. Once Birmingham Southern dropped their team, the Big South redid the schedule and put Radford and Winthrop during winter break.

horrez, there has been complaints to the Big South about that happening.

The Winthrop game should've been the first home game with the students back had we not pushed our semester back a week this year.

Will you guys quit crying. It was a blessing that the students were not back last night to see the carnage.

I don't know about the Winthrop game is that big of a deal. Let's face it, in most people's eyes, last years Winthrop win was a fluke. (As evidenced by the schallacking we took a week or so later) So that is not a bad game to put in an empty gym. Now the Radturd game is inexcuseable. THEY are our rival. Why not put them in the gym when we, theoretcially, could have student attendance? Also, a Coastal/CSU swing would ALWAYS be good over the break. Those two team tag team up here with us and "The Turd" and then we reciprocate the following year. Sure we play them once the same time every year, but so what.

I've always thought that made the most sense. The Coastal/CSU fan bases aren't going to travel to the LU/Radford/VMI games anyways and vise versa. Put those over Christmas break.

At least our fans travel well to places like Radford and VMI. I've often seen more Flame fans at Radford games than I've seen Highlander fans, but maybe our folks are just going to watch the halftime show with the Radford dance team.

i am pretty sure thats not why people make fun of them....they are Radford...its fun...you of all people SJ I would think would get that....plus it is pretty well known they have a very high percentage of STD's...the most in the state the last I read. that was 2003...so we could go there if you want

I've heard every STD joke there is since I went to Coastal, and with the friends I have at ECU and UNCC.

I'm all about making fun of a school, if only it was original.

i guess...the STD thing is true, at least it was in 2003...it could have changed now...but whatever...if people have fun with it, its fine...i don't see it as a big deal

I just think it's cliche'd and unoriginal, then again, look at the people making the jokes.
