I like the idea, I just don't think it is any more likely than a conference invite. It would be comfortable for MG but I almost think this fanbase is going to be excited about breaking the monotony of regular seasons with the same opponents.

I am out of the loop on this idea. But I wonder what league that potentially could be. I would have to assume that CUSA makes the most sense. It definitely wouldn't be the MAC based on how they have treated affiliates in recent years. This might be an interesting way for the schools in the Sun Belt who were supportive of our candidacy to get some regional FBS games on their calendar without dipping into guarantees. It certainly is something to chew on.

Would leagues that would consider us a membership liability based on our perceived baggage be cool with a loose affiliation? It is an intriguing idea even if it would be challenging to find a dance partner.

Great report again, ASOR. Looking forward to finding out who all is on the schedule. As for scheduling affiliation, I would hope it would be partnered with CUSA or AAC. I wouldn't mind a couple games with Sun Belt foes, but not to make up the bulk share of our scheduling.

I agree with Pretty, I would like a CUSA or AAC scheduling alliance. Sun Belt a distant third preference since they snubbed their nose at use. I don't know why but I have a feeling this might be a CUSA scheduling alliance 8) .

I don't want Sun Belt because of the lack of SOS that would provide for us. I know Liberty needs to move slowly on increasing the opponents it plays for the majority of the schedule, but CUSA would be an obvious starting point. Geographically and competitively, CUSA makes the most sense.

Depending on the conference bylaws, odds are that an arrangement such as this would not require some sort of supermajority vote of the Presidents. It may only require a simple majority (which would likely be enough with the Sun Belt), or maybe no vote at all, just a deal worked with the commissioner.
I can see working something out with the Sun Belt but would prefer CUSA

Also worth noting that money talks. What G5 conference team wouldn't want to agree to a winnable FBS home and home series especially when they get paid to enter the home and home series. It helps with scheduling all while lining your own pockets. Win win.

Well now we have a slightly better chance to have Big and Rich "coming to your city" and bringing the CGD crew with em

Id be okay with any FBS conference affiliation. Would be fun to have either Sun Belt or CUSA or AAC teams in williams stadium for the next few seasons.

If it pans out, I could see this being a long term strategy. We would keep LFSN dollars, and have tons of flexibility with scheduling. If we can work out a deal like this, I do not see the need to join a conference any time soon. The Big South is a good level of competition in most every other sport. Gonzaga proves that top teams in Basketball do not always come from P5.

I don't think they thought it was possible for 2018 or 2019. But I think many fo us seeing possibilities moving into the 2020s for a road game in South Bend.

That will be interesting if possible. Honestly I would hope to have some matchups with BYU and hopefully gain some respect from that program plus Army as well.

That's an entire Decade. Big difference between 2021 and 2029.
So what does it benefit ND to schedule LU?

Theoretically it could fill a tough to schedule October or November slot with a safe FBS school that likely wouldn't require a home-and-home contract.

I'm way down the chain on this one but I did hear LU is likely to have a home game with a military school not named Army in 2019, and likely an away game with a military school not named Army in the same year. (If someone has information contradicting this or adding to this, feel free to share. I don't pretend to be in the know.)

2018's schedule is being put together but probably will not be the sexiest year. But I have solid expectations for 2019. Not just talking fun mid-major programs either...we may actually generate some heavy hitters playing on the mountain.

Does military school mean service academy here? I would certainly hope so. VMI and The Citadel both fall into military schools. Navy and Air Force would be insane though.

Service academy would be the more appropriate term. Apologies.
