I think these 2 paragraphs answer one question. There was apparently a legal and monetary (see breach of contract) for the BoR to want McCaw to stay on

Sources told us the board had decided to keep McCaw after his teleconference and put him on probation but his resignation came at the urging of Baylor Chief Operating Officer Reagan Ramsower.

Sources also say the Board initially needed to keep McCaw to fire Briles, because Briles contract required the termination be carried out by the athletic director or the president.

If by "Baylor supporters" you mean McCaw, then I follow, otherwise not so much. I read the article as being implicitly against Baylor, where Baylor is the current BOR trying to skew the facts, using former athletic staff as scapegoats.

Also interesting that the former T9 coordinator, Crawford, names Ramsower as the one that worked to stop her from implementing IX policies.

Media reports Tuesday afternoon indicated Baylor offered Crawford a $1.5 million settlement in response to a human resources complaint alleging retaliation that Crawford filed against Reagan Ramsower, Baylor’s chief operating officer and senior vice president.

Yes. Sorry. That's where I was going. To phrase it differently, everyone has their bias because of their relationships with the different players in this story. Since Baylor refused to get an official unbiased report from Pepper Hamilton, we will never know the truth.

Last month KWTX obtained a secretly recorded audio tape of a meeting between Crawford and members of the athletic staff in late July in which Crawford expressed frustration with the administration.

She told the group she had begun to refuse to share names of those involved in Title IX investigations with Baylor administrators, fearful that the officials might take action before those involved in the investigations receive due process.

“That's what we talked about this week, I said this has to be very clear that at this point, no one is going to know, other than our office, who these people are, what their names are, where this is going”, Crawford says.

“Because there have been occasions where I've been called on my cellphone on a Sunday morning by a board member wanting names.”

Crawford also told the group she felt like the football team had been unfairly targeted, noting just two football players have been convicted of sexual assault during Briles’ tenure at Baylor.

“A very small percentage of our cases have anything to do with athletics”, Crawford said in the meeting, of which KWTX obtained a recording.

“And I've made that very clear to our leadership. This is not an athletics issue in the sense of violence and all these things, this is a human issue.”

The DOE announced about a month ago it is opening an investigation against Baylor, prompted by the Crawford complaint. If they are really a "neutral fact finder" as they reported, maybe we'll get a different account than what Baylor is spinning.

I actually know Jenny a bit from years ago when I was still in that Houston sports media world. And I get where she is coming from based on her experience. But I agree that it is more evidence of the perception of this move than a solid statement on where we should be.

I am far from a supporter of Baylor under any cicrcumstances as evidenced by my voluminous posts on the subject matter over the years on this board. But I will comment that my friends in those circles seem to be quick to defend McCaw while damning nearly everyone else in leadership int he school. Most feel he was used as a scapegoat and has little culpability. My guess is that JLFJR heard similar things when he made inquiries.

As for the bent of KWTX reporters, keep in mind that Waco is an even smaller market than Roanoke-Lynchburg and is full of young journalists cutting their teeth. many of those journalists are recent BU grads. I have know idea where the author of that story fits into the equation, but I thought I would share the background. Most local media in Waco cowtow to whatever the BU folks want in order to hang onto their access. KWTX (or any of the other local media) cannot afford to get sideways with BU or they pay a significant price. So if current administrators are encouraging oca media to see things a certain way, you can expect there will be pressure to follow along. This comes from personal experience in Central Texas media.

Count me in the camp that was initially concerned about news of the hire but is willing to give him a chance. If he really is indeed a victim of the mess in Waco, he could prove to a very valuable asset to us in achieving our ultimate athletic goals. If we discover more to indicate his personal culpability in a BU cover-up, then I would have to reassess the situation. But that is where I stand right now. I fully understand the alarm and respect the opinions of those that see this situation differently than I do.

As for UH, it was simply too soon for them to re-hire Briles. The optics alone would be tough to manage. Then again, I don't have to explain that to LU folks. But it looks like UH is focused on Lane Kiffin & Les Miles right now. I think both would be fantastic fits here in Houston. Les already spent half of his time recuiting in the Bayou City and has the contacts. And this is just the right type of opportunity for Kiffin to take a second stab at being a grown-up head coach.

DALLAS, Texas (KWTX) Bears for Leadership Reform called Monday for an independent investigation of Baylor Board of Regents actions dating back to before the scathing Pepper Hamilton report in May.

The call came during a meeting Monday morning in Dallas between representatives of the reform group and Regents Cary Gray, Jerry Clements and Joel Allison.

“We’ve lost faith in Pepper Hamilton,” former Texas Gov. Mark White said after the meeting.

“The secrecy surrounding it does not pass the smell test,” John Eddie Williams said.

Very Interesting what is happening in WACO.

There are 10,000 people that have signed up to support the "Bears for Leadership Reform". The group wants to "restore integrity to the world’s largest Baptist University.”

The leaders of this group met with Board of Regents, and are holding them to the fire for how they potentially passed the buck off on the athletic department.
