I don't like it but I understand it. With that said I have zero trust that Jerry will make a good hire.
That's been my knock on JB. He was hired because of connections to get LU to FBS. Apparently those connections were not as advertised.
He really didn't do much fund raising. The Capital projects were funded by LUO
He hired and fired some coaches. Just like any other AD would have done.
I'm sure he's a nice component guy but .....
He handled the politics about as well as anyone could. He definitely had faults. Not getting to FBS was not one of them.

I don't worry about a coach getting hired before an AD. We're just going to get Carr to find a coach with or without his boss.

But that was WHY he was hired. He didn't produce.
The Politics IS a minefield but he had it easy early on. I'm sure it's gotten more difficult lately

If not getting to FBS is the reasoning, the timing make practically no sense.

Your version of why he was hired is different from what I remember.

I thought he was hired because he was a great fundraiser. Remember, we were still in tons of debt when he got hired. Then Doc's life insurance got us out of the hole and online took off so fundraising wasn't as needed.

He didn't do any fundraising. All major donations came from The Mansion. He led 0 Capital Campaigns
But that goes back to Politics. The University jealously guards revenue streams.

University presidents decide on conference affiliation. ADs just watch and pray. Maybe he's not a good enough prayer.

Couple thoughts:
I really respected JB. He did a fantastic job while he was at Liberty and I cannot say enough good things about him. Both from my experience from within the department and as an alum from afar.
I hope this doesn't effect Mickey. He is the best of the best and truly the salt of the earth. I have a lot of admiration for him and hope he is able to stay on the mountain.
I wonder if this effects Jay and his commitment?
Good ADs are not like good coaches. They are much more difficult to find, so this could have very harsh implications for Liberty athletics as a whole.
Does Gill "resign" Friday morning or Monday?
I really hope Jr. knows what he is doing.

Also, when I said "heads will role" for the loss against CSU, I had no idea that would start with JB. Sad to see him go.

He's handled things for years. He was who I was referring to earlier. But I am not allowed to use his name.
The BIGGEST mistake LU Athletics could made would be letting the new AD replace him.

I'm not disagreeing on the actual fundraising happening. That's one of the reasons he and Jerry didn't get along. I just thought he was hired for different reasonings.

This is why I brought up Mickey in the first place. I hope this doesn't happen.

I was much closer to the Dept back then. The quote used once was 'We don't need someone who can raise money. We need someone with connections to the next level'

Bad move for you guys. Is Falwell, Jr. as big a jerk as he seems to be? I've heard through some family that a decent chunk of the faculty at LU have little use for him as well.

While we are at it, can y'all take Chuck back? Pretty please? 8)

Chuck was a great AD fit at LU. I don't think there is enough money in the world that he'd come back ha
Yes. Lots of Faculty have little use for JR. But don't speak that too loudly. He may be the next Secretary of Education!!!

with the recent comments of Jr about playing FBS football in the matter of months, it could correlate with the firing of Barber. Maybe Jeff doesn't agree with taking the NCAA to court, forcing their hand for FBS indy. He's an athletic director that deals with the NCAA so it would all fall on him. I could totally be wrong.

i appreciate all of what Jeff has done like the facility upgrades and making Liberty more accessible but I feel like a lot of the teams have been average. Minus W Soccer, Track, Swimming, and Field hockey all of the sports have been underwhelmingly
bad/average.
