nice win by the guys last night. smitty played above the rim last night, and rell though he did not score a lot was solid defensively. alex was a beast :D and larry was larry. brew did not play due to a hand injury from what i was told, but his hand did not appear hurt. i know many who i was sitting around said hey we won without brew, but im just not so sure that made any difference. we were at home, where we play well, and it is radford who is very weak. i am still puzzled why damien is running the point though. hoping for a big night saturday when winthrop comes to town.

As already said, this was a good win. Hopefully this will have everyone's confidence up a little bit from the last several games for Winthrop. I hate to say that us winning this game has anything to do with Brew not being in there. The rest of the season should tell the story as far as that goes.

It was a good win yes, but Radford just looked REALLY bad. The way we played the first half plus 10 minutes in the second we can compete in the BS, The was a big lapse though in the middle of the second half we couldnt shake their press AT ALL I think within what seemed 5 minutes they pulled from like 22 to 10 down.

I recall people saying the frist 6 wins were padded. And yes, Brew was not there for those. We hit the road, where we have had major trouble. Plus the competition was alot stiffer (except for St F on their floor and UNCA). For someone to say we won last night because Brew was not in there is really dumb. By March we will be better off with him than without him.

The coaching staff just needs to come up with a better rotation, even if Brew comes off the bench early. Maybe that is how they should have started him out doing????

^^^ good point. I stated before he played that we should ease him into the lineup for both chemistry and conditioning reasons. Everyone else exclaimed that he's been playing with them for over a year. I just think we shouldn't have rushed him into playing 30 minutes a game so soon so the team can learn how to play with him gradually, in a game atmosphere. I also don't think he shoudl be a PG but if he came here on that condition, what can you do.

everyone that saw him play in practice that is...everybody else was skeptical and rightfully so...I was all for easing him in, maybe have him come off the bench for 18 minutes a game or something to start things out...but that is the past, can't change it now...and I think Brew will be fine...but who knows maybe there is something to this whole thing...its the wait and see game

Hubbard does not do it for me as a PG either. I cannot see why BJ and Holland cannot share the time there, and maybe Brew a little for more scoring options.

My lineup:
BJ
LB
AS
RP
AM

then Brew for RP 4-5 minutes in.

I stated before Brew made his debut, that we should ease him in. Play him about 10-15 minutes the first game, then increase it by 2-3 minutes per game after that. When he came into the mix our confidence was sky high, and it seemed to me that we should do our best to keep it that way to the best of our ability.

WWJFD, I would start Brew at the 4 and have Rell come of the bench. Rell's a spark plug and will play hard anytime he's in the game.

Yeah Its an old Injury, he been to the doctor but its nothing serious. I havent talked to him yet, but i would think he will be back for winthrop, but he just keeps getting it hit and re-aggervating it, hopefully doctors can figure out something to do for it, in the offseason :D

Having Brew integrate slowly would have been the BEST way to handle the situation. BUT in the words of the Never Hall of Famer Mark McGuire "I am not here to talk about the past"
Funny quote by Samuels inthe paper. "Our guys didn't play with any intensity" How much intensity can you play with when the coach is resigning at the end of the year? It is not like he has been there for 20 years are something. Not sure , must be legal, why RU would have kept him on. This will be a lost season for the 'turd.

Heck why not Linda Farver?? :D :D Brant Tolsma has a pretty good record, try him. What's Frank Landry doing now adays? Other than hawking his book onthe radio? I am sure he has somespare time when it rains
Is there drug testing on this board?? If there is, I think those clamoring for RR and CG should be tested! "Hey that's not KOOL AID"

Just Curious.

Radford had a quick little guy playing last night. I think he's a freshman and his name is either Jameer or Ameer Johnson. Is he the same small guard that RD wanted to bring on board this year but we didn't have a scholarship available? Or am I thinking about someone else?

I know on the other thread someone got a little carried away with a Rick Reeves mention in regard to our men's team... but I don't think that he should become a punchline on this board. He is a good man and was a good coach that God put here at a point to build our women's program.

I don't think he actually wants to coach our men's team. He mentioned that comment 7 years ago right after he left and at the beginning of Mel's run. He loved Liberty and always said that he would love to come back someday but that it would have to be a new challenge. I don't believe he had put a whole lot of thought into the idea, it was just something he said when put on the spot by some dumb radio announcer ;-) I think at this point in his life he would probably be more interested in an administrative type position in place of the challenge of coaching men, which he hasn't done since early in his career.

Rick is happy right now where he is, but I think D1 basketball is so different between men and women that this is not something either party would really want to consider.

Wow. I actually ran into Rick Reeves and his family at a Sheetz on the way home from my parent's in PA the day after Christmas. Gardner Webb's women's team was on their way up to play Lehigh.

Rick Reeves is an LU fan...but he's got a good thing going at Gardner Webb...when they join the Big South, I think LU/Gardner Webb will be the top 2 tams. I don't think he wants to be the men's coach here. He actually said that he doesn't.

The one thing that will be sad for him is once GW joins the Big South he will be coaching agaist so many teams that he knows people on...one of his assistants the coach at Radfortd, and of course comming back and playing LU. But he seemed happy at Gardner Webb.

I though he was really nice of him to sit and talk with me about LU and the days of the Wilkersons and Kisseleva. :)
