How is the band this year? Still as boring as ever?
I like Kerr, but this years band presentation is REALLY bad... It's super slow and cheeeeeezzzzyyy. We pick people up at one point and spin them and instead of a formation, everyone just comes together in a big clump.

I love the band! Dr. Kerr is actually a vt alumni and LU and VT's drumlines all did a cool drumoff before the game. Someone took a video of it, I believe it'a on Youtube.

LU's band also does a cool warmup each gameday where they play and sing, "Be Thou my Vision". I really like it. It's on Youtube as well for anyone that wants to see it.

What makes me sad is during the last two games there appeared to be more band members than students left on the students' side towards the end of the 4th quarter.

I do not like the go, flames, go chant. Also, at least once last game we were encouraged to cheer when LU was on offense. That should not happen!

Taking your word that Dr Kerr is a VT alum, that obviously was grad school because he was a classmate of mine back when it was LBC, music classes were in a rented house on Thomas Road across from the entrance to LC, and he was just "Steve"

Let's talk football. You don't have to answer all the questions above. Those are just to get the conversation going.

I saw Nick Pierce tweeted today that Dailey said we haven't even begun to scratch the surface of what our offense's identity could be. I hope that scratch it fast or there'll be an all new one next year.
That quote from Dailey brings back memories of Mel Hankinson talking about how we still hadn't installed 80% of his defenses after he had been our basketball coach for 4 YEARS

It certainly does seem we have been extremely vanilla on offense Time to spice it up Yes, that means future opponents will get a look at more of the playbook, but the really good OCs don't let that stop them They find situations to use those plays again when they aren't expected and they COME UP WITH NEW ONES as the season progresses

Good post and perspective!

I like the "Go Flames Go!" chant. It is particularly good when we have a full stadium and it's one of those chants that is timeless and creates a togetherness throughout the stadium that you see at big time programs. This chant will be really cool once we have another sell out. It's only a 2 year old chant, so it takes time to catch on.

The difference is that the OC hasn't been here 4 years and neither have the players. The Season really begins next week, win Conference go to playoffs. Unless the OC is a complete dolt, and he might be I don't know, I'm willing to wager a large sum that there will be some new twists and wrinkles as the season goes on. Why give opponents a chance to practice against something when you can surprise them later?

"Go Flames Go" is lame, sorry just my opinion.

I don't think we are actually in disagreement Purple We both are saying it is time now for Daley to open up the offense I understand the difference in the situations but when I read the quote, it just sounded so "Hanky-esque" I couldn't resist

Resistance is futile

That never becomes true in my long exp with some bad teams.
