Here's my explanation for that:

The way I see it, an uptempo offense is predicated on speed. Maseratis are built for speed. You don't take it for a run to Kroger (or whatever is your local grocery store), you open it up on the Pacific Coast Highway or the Autobahn or someplace where you can make use of the speed. You take an Accord to the grocery store...you take a Maserati on the open road...Im hopeful we finally start hitting the open road with this offense now that Calvert is the man.
Swing and a miss. Sorry Beej.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take!

Masha has struggled because of failure to utilize his legs running ball. which falls back to play calling/game plan, I believe, When you have a dual threat QB, use him in a duel capacity .

I believe it was a popular car in WV in the 70s, and ended up being a dud of car at that. We still use 8 tracks in WV.

going by MANSON's article/numbers:
Code: Select all
Calvert: 25/56 (45%), 313 yards (12.5 yd avg), 2 TD, 3 INT

Masha: 34/69 (49%), 327 yards (9.6 yd avg), 3 TD, 7 INT
obviously doesn't account for YAC

"Getting him [Calvert] reps with the entire 1 group all week is going to be really, really good,” Coach Dailey said. “The past 4 weeks, he’s been splitting reps with the 1 group between himself and Stephon."
So basically they sabotaged Masha from the get go.

It explains why he was so out of sync. Granted Masha never was going to be great but it's clear the coaching staff never had faith in him.

Precisely my concern.

HCTG has essentially sabotaged Masha's entire career or hopes of a career at LU. He has not set him up for success and it's a waste of talent. Gill knows the seat is getting hotter and he doesn't trust Masha enough to put it all on the line with him as the QB. Gill now has an excuse for this season if all goes wrong. Injuries and a true Freshman QB. It buys him a year while he searches for his next gig.

My post is a combination of frustration, devil's advocate and skepticism.

This can be debated. His R-Fr year showed his potential. He has been horribly prepared and under-utilized since those 2 games.

You love reading the negative into everything this staff does. That is such an incredible reach from that statement I'm surprised you didn't pull a muscle

I believe that it was simply indecisiveness rather than a thought out scheme to buy himself time.

Masha has had plenty of opportunities to earn the coaching staff's trust. As in years not weeks.
If you REALLY wanted to play Devils Advocate you'd say a QB change at this point is irrelevant. With the BSC being so bad LU will beat everyone handily until they play CSU and with their season on the rocks should beat them regardless of who is under center. THAT is how you play Devil's advocate and that is why I am the Potenatate of :flamingdevil

SM, felt the pressure that really wasnt supposed to be there, SBC was there, but if you do what your supposed to do then, there is nothing to worry about. SM using his legs is a by product of coverage downfield then he can take off if NEEDED. Bottom line teams sat and squatted on us daring SM to beat us with his arm, he didnt or couldnt. the offense has not had any tempo let alone up tempo, but hey some of that can be attributed to the OL as they are helping hamper the offenses position. That has been just as much of a disappointment as anything else. But at the end of the day you have to find a way to get those bodies on campus, thats your job.

SM is by far the better ATHLETE not the better QB. This team at this time needs a QB, sure we play Robert Morris, but are we going to jump up and down if SBC comes in and blows them out just as SM did vs. Jacksonville. We shouldnt but it would/should be good for confidence.

If Calvert has the day against RMU that Masha had against Jax then this board will lose itself over how amazing Calvert is at QB.

PH - it's much easier to justify losing to CSU with a true Fr QB than a R-Jr. Beating everyone else in the BSC is supposed to be a given. Also, Masha was not given years to prove himself. He rode the pine behind "the greatest QB to play for Liberty" and proved what he could do in 2 games because he had to and the coaching staff didn't have a choice. The lack of development of SM from there on out is beyond frustrating.

Forbidden - I know I have disagreed with you a lot on the QB discussion, but I think we both agree SM was not set up for success.

I hope I am wrong, but unless Buckshot falls flat on his face the rest of this year I'm afraid Masha will look back to those 2 games in 2014 and the Jacksonville game as the only real high points of his career at Liberty I don't see him making a huge impact at another position I don't believe he would be better than any of our top 4 or 5 WRs He will be insurance behind Calvert this season, and then IMHO will have a decision as to whether to finish his career at LU or transfer somewhere he can play QB, especially if he is on track to graduate this Spring, which I suspect he is since he redshirted as a FR

I'd put money on it that Masha won't be on the team next year and I don't really blame him. The staff has yanked him around since he got here and never truly believed in him.

I've had this conversation privately but at this point I think it's a fair question to ask publicly:

How much, whether subtly or overtly, has Gill's playing career being cut short by concussions influenced us not fully adopting the spread option that would've put Masha in the best situation for him? When you see that we don't hit at practice and that we only call QB running plays where it's a guaranteed one-on-one play, you'd have to think some of that is influenced by his past.

It's possible that maybe he just isn't that good?

It totally is. And I don't think he's a guy that can run a traditional offense. But it seems like they never even gave him a shot. They decided a long time ago he would never be the guy. That's why no matter how bad Woodrum was, there was never any shot at Masha coming in even for a series. This year they're showing they wanted to go to Calvert from the beginning of the year but he wasn't ready.

I recall hearing that Daley chose to go with a no huddle high paced offense specifically because Masha ran that in HS and it fit his skills I cannot think of a single time this year our offense caused a problem with the opponent due to pace Not one We seem to consistently use almost all of the play clock, and at least once had a delay of game penalty AFTER A TIME OUT :banghead
