Too much genuflecting to JSU here They lost some very good players from last years national runner-up squad, and have really not been impressive Beat D2 N Alabama by 19, lost by 3 touchdowns to LSU (whereas last years team took Auburn to OT) and then had to come from behind to beat Coastal by 1 point at home Saturday and Coastal ended up playing their 4th string QB

Also a lot of negativity to SMU after beating us I wasn't sold on how good they were before our game, and the jury is certainly still out, but saying they are the 4th or 5th best team on our schedule is premature IMHO

That was true last year They really haven't played very well this year

Why not?

It's not a must win as far as getting into the playoffs, because a loss would not change a thing as far as the BSC autobid is concerned As far as this team realizing it's potential and becoming a team that can do some damage in the playoffs, I think a win against JSU would be HUGE

It feels like a must win for the morale and momentum of the rest of the season.

It's not a must win for morale or momentum at all. Regardless of this game, if we bounce back and pound Robert Morris like we should, we'll have stability and a win going into the bye. Then we'll roll off four wins and be sitting at 6-3 going into CSU with a chance to go to the playoffs on the line.

Ha! Like every game this season, I'm more concerned with how we play than the results. I've thought all along we'd be 6-3 going into CSU. The current 1-2 has been more disappointing than I thought it'd be. I'd actually be okay with another loss as long as we show improvement. This season is all about conference play.

He says "later this week" so it may not be Saturday, but I'll still give you credit for nailing that one

With all the talk about the QB position, the most puzzling thing about the QBs, is the stats on Masha running the ball. He has 11 carries for 25 yards. Granted "sacks" are included in this number, but being a dual threat QB, there have been very few designed QB runs. When a dual threat QB runs the ball, it opens up passing lanes somewhat. I have always said the best running play in football is a QB Draw.
Anyone care to comment on why Masha isn't running ball.

Masha has 11 carries for 35 yards through 3 games. The best drive of the game against SMU was the first drive for Liberty that ended in a TD run by Mosley. My feeling is the coaching staff (if Calvert gets the start this Saturday) planned on starting Calvert against JSU or RMU and moving forward. Get his feet wet in the first 3-4 games and move on from there. Masha has been under utilized IMO and that was evident against SMU.

I alluded to it earlier in this thread and discussed it in the SMU thread. The fact that Masha has 11 carries through 3 games is a shame and further indication that the coaching staff isn't using him to his full abilities. They have not given him the confidence to go ahead and make plays with his feet. There is 1 QB draw run per game. The offense has been way too predictable thus far.

Masha's most successful game was his 1st career start. He ran the ball 10 times in that game against CSU in 2014.

The running issue can be traced back to the fact that the defenses don't fear masha throwing the ball. It's hard for him to do anything on the ground when the defense won't allow it.

Not sure that's a bad thing

Some great quotes in here, nicely done on the coverage, guys.

Whether you think Masha should start or Calvert, I think we all agree with HCTG that we haven't seen the production from this position we expected.
