Richmond was pretty good Last year, but that is interesting.

I said over the weekend I thought this would be the best FCS team we've faced in the ten years since I've been following the program. It's at home and at night so we can definitely win, but we'll have to play an incredibly sound game in all three phases.

If we play an average Liberty game, I think JSU wins by ten-ish.

If we play great, we can win.

If we play like this past week, we will lose by 20+.

Really? You consider a combined 18/36, 183 yards and 1TD/4INTs against SMU's defense "fine"? Masha doesn't have the confidence right now to play at a consistent level. Calvert hasn't shown the maturity to execute at a high enough level to lead to a win this week or a playoff appearance - this is not a knock on Calvert one bit. Maybe a start from snap 1 will change that because there is something to be said about getting into a rhythm and flow, but I'm not seeing it yet.

I'm not freaking out over here, I'm simply stating I'm concerned.

Calvert will be fine after Jacksonville State. Robert Morris is horrible. The Big South isn't great. You give him five games against inferior opponents and a bye week and he'll be ready to go by CSU.

Maybe, but it has me concerned.

Masha has 11 carries for 35 yards through 3 games. The best drive of the game against SMU was the first drive for Liberty that ended in a TD run by Mosley. My feeling is the coaching staff (if Calvert gets the start this Saturday) planned on starting Calvert against JSU or RMU and moving forward. Get his feet wet in the first 3-4 games and move on from there. Masha has been under utilized IMO and that was evident against SMU.

3 of those INT's were by a QB who is most likely not the future QB of the program. The 4th was in a hurry up set. I can see Bucky growing up quickly over the course of the year. So no I'm not worried or concerned. Saturday's game is winnable as are the rest of the games of the year

I never said the Jax St. game isn't winnable. We have the talent to, and should, run the table after 9/24 and that includes CSU. I am concerned about the QB situation.

Masha's confidence seems to be shot, so you're right. It is very unlikely he will be the guy the rest of this year or next, which is a shame.
Calvert skills are not refined enough to warrant "not worried or concerned". Can that change? Sure. Will it? I'm concerned about that for the short term success of this team.

It would be concerning if he didn't have the ability to get those things done. But he does. And I would wager sooner rather then later

Is it fair to declare this game a litmus test for our program?

If you look at the schedule this year, NDSU, the reigning FCS champion, needed overtime to beat CSU, yet beat a 13th-ranked FBS team that went to the Big 10 Championship Game last year. Jacksonville State struggled to beat Coastal Carolina by one point, and they were the runner-up to NDSU last year. We know we can play CSU and Coastal tough and sometimes we win. That's what makes me think we can play at the level of the very best in the FCS.

On the other hand, JMU beat the SMU team that beat us this year, and Richmond beat Virginia, while our FBS wins, when we have them, come against Group of Five conference teams, not Power 5 teams.

This team puzzles me, and I'm not sure where to start looking for answers.

It would be nice to start Big South play on a two-game winning streak, and maybe we'll settle down by then and play more consistently. GO FLAMES!

I would say this game is a litmus test. Especially since it's at home. In my opinion JSU is better than Richmond, JMU, CCU or CSU or any other FCS team, other than North Dakota State

Seems like we are getting a lot of respect from JSU. Liberty has built a very tough place to play at Williams Stadium.
