I am torn between top 3 and winning and top 3 and losing in finals. I would have to look at the entire history of the program, particularly the past 3 years with the majority of players (and defections) being RD's. At 317 in the RPI, and as bad as the big south is, I cannot see us moving much higher than 250. I find that unacceptable in a coach's fifth season, so, anything short of a championship, I am making a change. Even if he is renewed, I would make it a 3 year rollover, because anything less than 3 years will hurt his ability to recruit.

I find it hilarious that you're so hung up on "defections" yet you think getting rid of the coach after 5 years will bring some stability to the program.

Yes, the big south title he won should definitely be part of the equation.
Yes, the current state of affairs (as it is come March) should be considered.
Yes, the in-conference and out-of-conference record should be considered.
Yes, the talent that is here this year and already here for next should be considered.
Yes, the program from where it was to where it is now should be considered.
Yes, his passion for Liberty, his Christian values, and his integrity should be considered.

I think that if he finished top three and made it to the championship game, he would get some sort of extension. I still think he would be on some sort of hot seat though. Although upon further thinking, even with a BSC championship our program would still have instability. RD and instability seem to be synonymous.

this is a very good list of things to consider. Now, if you can put an individual weight to each of them, you have yourself a formula, and possibly an answer. At least an answer not soley based on emotion like most of us are doing.

I suppose it is where you put the priority as to how you weight things. Is his passion and integrity at #1, or is it somewhere in the middle? Certainly, conference record would be weighed more than non-conference. What weight do you give the one championship? Certainly, instead of building on that success, the program appears (as of today), to have regressed. Does the AD sees the turnover as "where there's smoke, there's fire," whereas teams such as baseball at LU have seemed to have survived the turnover that marked Royer's first two years. Does a late-season run save his job, or has the school learned from the mistakes with Karcher's renewal?

In all, I am glad I am not making the decision, but in fairness to LU and Coach Dunton, all things need to be considered by the AD or whomever (JF?) will be making the decision.

I voted for what I think will happen, not what I would do...and I think if he makes it to the championship he will sign a 2 year extension...anything less I think he is gone....As for what I would do..I don't know...I think I would probably do the same thing simply because I look at the Big South and there is no reason with the talent we have that we shouldn't make it to the big south championship....Winthrop is a solid team and if it is them we are playing in the championship and we lose I don't think its a big deal..BUT if it is any other school, which I know is a Big IF...and we lose, then there is no excuse and he should be let go....so I guess overall that is where I stand

This comes from a person who loves Coach D....so it really is hard for me to say any of this...but I have to be honest about the situation at hand

Question: I'm not trying to step on toes or anything, but everyone always seems to think on here that LU has the best talent in the league or at least 2nd best......my question is why do you think that? Certainly Blair and Brewington would start for just about anyone, but do you honestly think it extends on down the line?

No, it doesn't extend on down the line. But its possible Smith and McClean would start from some teams.

Hubbard would not start or play for many teams, same for Rell and Baker. Jenkins and Holland are just to young to make that decision. Being first year players I doubt either would play a whole lot for most BSC teams.

My take from watching a few games is that Smith is pretty darn good, though still young and inconsistent--he would start for many---Mclean, I think the jury is still out. I just think you have too many good players for one or two spots----I'm convinced Brewington would be nasty at the 3 spot in Big South play and isn't a point---but then where do you put Smith?

I am not sure there are many people on this board that thing LU has better talent then WU...but i think we have more talent then any other team other then WU>...this conference is so weak it doesn't take much, which is why its hard on us to watch them lost to a team such as UNC-Ashville...

I agree, we have a lot of talent at one or two positions. I too, think Brewington is not the point guard.
