The Flamethrowers:

Much better than initial reaction. They do a great job on the Baptist side of the stadium. They lead chants, help the calm folks get engaged on when to be loud, stand, cheer, chant etc. There was something needed for this side of the stadium and I am glad they are used here instead of the students side. They stand in the aisle, crouch during play, and get the sections around them engaged. Nice execution.

Can we expect to see the "Flame Throwers" back in action this year ?

I know we have a new corny LU Rap song that will be blast over the stadium speakers ad nauseam .

Any other "promotions" or "hype" we can brace ourselves for this season ?

The Flame Throwers ended up not being that bad. Actually helped get some of the really Baptist (aka never stand or cheer) on the Baptist side get involved.

Humble Tip should be banned from LU.

"Humble Tip should be banned from LU."

Word.

Did you notice how quickly the comments section got closed on the YouTube video????

If they really want to create some hype for college students (& interested high school students) they need to get A LOT more promo input from the student body. I was a student minister for over a decade, and I would have hidden this song/video from my students.

Yeah, that was pretty snarky... But, to be honest, I'm not a huge fan. I'm sure he's a decent guy, but I don't think he's the right fit for trying to hype up the university.

I've always tried to introduce students & families to LU. Especially those who come from a non- Christian, or nominally Christian background.
I loved seeing kids come to LU not really caring about the spiritual dynamic & then have their lives turned completely upside down by the gospel.
Unfortunately, there were too many occasions that I saw kids get turned off by stuff that seemed too cheesy or too focused on "the bubble"
Anyway, hopefully my concerns end up being a moot point.

Yeah. Man I always feel bad criticising Humble Tip because he is one of the nicest guys you could meet but his LU stuff is just not very good.

I am not in sports marketing, and I do not claim to know a ton about it. Here is my 2 cents.

When we were a younger fan base, and we didn't have many people participating in the pregame festivities, students were leaving early, and so on, the hype was bearable. We now have one of the largest FCS crowds in the country, to come and watch mostly horrible football (Big South/ Division II ) at home games. We are not the young fan base anymore, and we do not need to be spoon fed how to act. LUADJEFF needs to put a good product on the field, and make the game experience a fun and interesting one. 4QF, HYPE MAN SCREAMING AT FANS, FLAMETHROWERS, HUMBLE TIP, they are all horrible choices. It is amazing to me how oblivious some of these Fan Experience and Sports Marketing guys are. It seems like if it was their idea, they will run it into the dirt defending it as a great thing, even if students and fans constantly tell them different.

The hype machine needs to be haulted, and the football powerhouse machine needs to start running. These tricks and the fake hype is getting so old.

This alone is has led to some of the most frustrations about Liberty athletics.

There once was a guy who polled and surveyed students about in game experience. Hmmm. Heard he was pretty awesome

I didn't mean it as a personal attack on him at all. He is just not good and his LU stuff is so forced.

I got excited when I came across this LU football highlight; 1. Because LU doesn't do ultimate highlights of the team or specific players - pretty bummed about this. 2. Because it's football season and who doesn't love a good highlight.

I was quickly disappointed after 45 seconds when I realized it was Humble Tip and how bad the song truly was, especially because it's a great highlight. I muted it after those 45 seconds and the highlight is now (almost) ruined for me.

Maybe it's a me issue, but I really don't think so.

Here's my take on that R i

Its a balancing act...you can have the best on-court, on ice or on-field product in the country, but if your sports marketing, promotions and gameday experience are all terrible, then you won't get as many people as you possibly could. On the flip side of that you can have the best sports marketing and promotions staff money can buy, and the best gameday experience imaginable (both in game and out), but if your on-field, on-ice and on-court product sucks eggs, nobody is going to want to come for that either.

I don't mind Humble Tip (contrary to some on this board), I don't mind the Flamethrowers if it means getting more noise out of the "Baptist Side". I will say I could probably do the red jacket guy's job pretty well myself and I don't mind 4QF either. What Id like to see is a little more on field promotion, and not just stuff like kicking field goals for cars or someone proposing (a whole different discussion btw). If we can find that balance, we can have one of the best experiences both on and off the field in the country

One thing Id like to see though outside of that...I miss the Sportscenter style highlight videos after the game.

What is Sports Marketing? SMH the dumbing down of America. It's not you BJ. It's even on text books now.

Now you? I expect better of you. SMH. It has nothing to do with an apostrophe. And I wasn't blaming BJ. It's just a symptom of our times. Oh how standards have fallen. I weep. I weep Crybaby

There's a difference between marketing/promotions and hype.

People proposing at sporting events is the most awkward thing in the world for 95% of the people in the stadium. We also don't want to turn into a minor league baseball game with all sorts of things going on between stoppages of play. Every single second doesn't need to have something over the top. People need room to breathe. Negative space is a good thing.

I don't think every second needs to be filled (heck you already have a big chunk of pregame and halftime taken up by the band) but it wouldn't hurt to have more than 1 on-field promo or something during the game

There's a t-shirt toss every quarter. There's usually honoring a team or group of people in the 1st and 3rd quarters. There are commercials on the video board that have to get played. If you add anything more to the games, you're going to have something every single moment when there isn't play on the field.
