I honestly think we keep it close in the 1st half. Homerism at its worst I'm sure.

Short term memory loss! 27.5 points, or 4 TDs
Ha. I spent a lot of time under water today. But which is it? 27.5 or 28. I mean I'll take VT covering but your bigger wageres will want that difference.

We have yet to really truly get "blown out" in an FBS game from start to finish...even when we lost by 27 to UNC a couple years ago, we were actually ahead in the third quarter and it came down to a hellaciously bad sequence of events that allowed the Heels to pull away. Im the West Virginia game last year, we were moving the ball, we just were not cashing in on the movement we had made. Like I said before, Tech will win this game, but I don't think that it will be a 42 point margin or anything even close to that

Interesting trivia, Fuente's first game at Memphis was a 20-17 loss to UT-Martin.

VT - 28
LU - 10

Ha, maybe if we can shut them out. The people predicting that we'll score 20+ points apparently have forgotten who VT's defensive coordinator is.

Ahh sorry, I forgot to put in a necessary qualifier...We have not been blown out from start to finish since 2006 and certainly under HCTG

In this case, I believe when he says "we" BJ is referring to the Gill regime

I don't think those of us who are predicting 20+ points on this tech defense is any disrespect to Bud Foster. Trust me, I know who he is and I have followed his dominance as a d-coordinator for a long time. Nevertheless, times have changed and the vaunted Tech defense is not as nasty or as good as they used to be.

First off, Virginia Tech is by no means invincible. I love Proto calling his shot. I also recognize that JMU proved that an FCS team can catch the Hokies napping in Lane Stadium. Sadly, I don't see that being the case this time:

Liberty - 21
Virginia Tech - 31

One thing we have learned in our years of these guarantee games is that we have a puncher's chance in season openers. The big boys typically don't have a rhythm yet in their first real action of the season and that tentative nature has proven fortuitous to hanging with teams with much more talent over the years.

First game under a new regime and coach Fuente's going to want to put an exclamation point on it at our expense. Something tells me Masha goes down with an injury and Calvert comes in to play fairly well - leading us to a QB controversy early in the season.

Even Purple remembers the smack down the Thundering Herd put on Coach Sam's LU team in Huntington. :nod
