CCU defense looks impressive thus far. Might wear out in 2nd half. Game on ESPN

WOW!!!! Either CSU has gotten much better or NDSU dropped off a great deal! Looked like NDSU should have rolled in the second half but made some bad mistakes. I am going to say that we don't make the playoffs this year with an auto bid!

CSU is just building on their last two years. This isn't surprising to those who have been watching them. If all you knew of CSU was who they used to be, this game is likely a huge shock.

NDSU did all they could to give that game away. CSU has come a long way for sure. It makes me angry. Haha

It should make us angry. They've bypassed us. We should be where they are and we aren't. It's upsetting.

To jinxy's point...I think a result like this underscores the importance of our first four games. If we come out of that stretch 2-2 (or a long shot 3-1), we can afford a loss to CSU as long as that's our only conference loss. If we are 1-3, we pretty much have to go 6-0 to have a chance

CSU's defense is legit, I will give them that. NDSU's offense is built to score. However, stats do not lie and the amount of plays that NDSU had compared to CSU's was very lopsided and the penalties against NDSU is really what kept CSU in the game. The final score was not a true reflection of the actual talent differential between the two.

On a lighter note: I could not help but laugh every time mack brown or the other guy spoke about how far a 45 yard field goal to a 52 yard field was. We truly were spoiled the last few years with John Lunsford. After he belted that 60 yarder vs Richmond I felt like every time he went for a 50+ yarder it was going in easily.

Fellas, it's finally football season!!!

Who is overreacting? CSU is a legit top ten team and has passed us. It will be tough to beat them. How is that overreaction?

If people were trying to say CSU is a legitimate national championship contender I might agree with the overreaction comment but none of that was happening here.

They have passed us in football and are the rightful favorite to win the conference. That should anger us and hopefully motivate a little bit.

CSU is a good squad I will say that...top 10? Maybe around 9 or 10...have they passed us? Not completely I think...now that may sound like a kool-aid comment to you Jon but the way I see it, the two of us are like two thoroughbreds racing in the stretch...CSU has come on strong and they are about a half a length ahead but we have a chance to come back. You're making it sound like they are Secretariat and they are far FAR ahead of us...which I think is why BYD is sensing an overreaction. Now, if we beat them this year, I don't think that it takes the pendulum the other way either.

2 separate points. As a program there not close. Not in facilities, infrastructure, recruiting base, history etc. In a shap shot there as talented as we are if not slightly more talented than us. Once chadwell leaves i highly doubt they stay where they are. They have played mostly cream puff scheduled the last 2 years and they converted on it. They straight up beat us last year. No way around that.

I personally am amazed, confused, and a bit frustrated that Chadwell is still at CSU He obviously has a personal affinity for the place, so it may take more than just $$ to lure him away Another year anything like the last 2, and I would certainly expect him to get some offers that are more tempting than the schools who have shown interest so far

Did you comprehend what I said Jon? I said, "not completely"...you seem to think that they are light years ahead of us and we have no shot in that game come November and potentially going forward...I don't share that view. I think we need to step our game up for sure but I don't think it will take as significant a change for that to happen and be right there as Alpha Male of the conference

You're making assumptions about what I'm saying Beej. I said they've passed us. You agreed that in the current situations, they've passed us. It's impossible to argue against that. They've beaten us the past two times we've played. They are ranked higher than us and have gone further than us in the playoffs. They are also picked ahead of us this season. By definition, that is passing us.

No one is saying or inferring we can't overtake them again. However, you cannot, by any means, deny they have currently passed us.

I think they are passing us (hence saying "not completely"), but they aren't beyond us yet. We have the same # of playoff games played (2), the same # of playoff wins (1). While they did get one round farther (and I may be splitting hairs here), really they started in a different round. If we both started in round 1 or 2, then maybe I could see some more validity in that particular metric...and rankings are somewhat subjective (as a voter in a poll Ive see that up close and personal) and preseason rankings are largely subjective as well

So you're disregarding that they had a better regular season than we've ever had thus earning the right to play one fewer game?

Given that you didn't qualify this in any way...2008 says hello

Edit: went back a bit too far before

I was at all but two games in 2008. I was also in the FOC the night the playoffs were announced. I'm pretty sure we didn't win the auto bid of the league and qualify for a first round bye in the playoffs.

We have the potential to overtake and pass CSU but the fact that cannot be argued, no matter how hard you try, is that they've passed us the past two years.

I agree with bury your duke about had we been taking on NDSU last night instead of CSU that we would have given a great show as well! And to be honest, I think we would have come out on top. Masha is a better qb than copeland and our Wide-outs from top to bottom are deeper than CSU. However, I do think the score would have been higher than 24-17. Again, just an opinion, but I think we are built for a run this year.

For the record 2 years ago CSU did not pass us, they sat on their butts and watched us on the TV beat JMU and almost beat Villanova.

Beej - I imagine you're smiling behind your keyboard thinking you've outwitted me.

Success in FCS football is predicated on playoff appearances. Any season with a playoff appearance is, by definition, a better season than one without it. Therefore, a season that leads to a seeded birth in the playoffs and a first round bye is more successful and a better season than one that doesn't end in the playoffs. 2008 for us didn't end up in the playoffs. 2015 for CSU did. Because of that, it was a better season than any that we've ever had.
