Guillen certaintly fits the splash criteria.
Ozzie Guillen?

I'd go for it.

Hey, the guys don't want to listen to his halftime speech? He'll bite the head off a bat. I'd listen to that.

300 + wins as a collegiate head coach. OR Taking a team from Eastern Wyoming that had never had success and leading them to nine conference championships in fifteen years. OR Taking his current job at LeTourneau University, a program that has won roughly 20% of its games, and now in his second year he has them on their way to their first winning season in ten years....

And I don't think that it is mere coincidence that Liberty has been mediocre at best since he left...

On a side note, Coach Leary was also a terrible loss for the program. He was an tremendous recruiter.

I am aware of Bob Davis' extensive history and he is a great motivator for sure. I just thought someone was saying he helped UNC but I think maybe he must have sent a player there or something? I was just wondering what that comment was about. Like I said when Stephon Leary left, he was an asset to the program because of his character, his ability to interact with the players, his motivational spirit and the fact that he played at Liberty. At schools like VMI and LU I think an assistant coach that has gone through what the players are going through makes them relate to what you have to say. When Nazigian and I were assistants with Dunton and Meyer was the head coach, we had 2 coaches (NAZ and SCAR) that had played for Liberty and experienced what they have. I like the assistant coaches now though. I think RD has assembled a great staff.

His only problem was that his team was so successful that it made the men's team look bad in comparison.
Coach Reeves is very happy at GW with our former AD Chuck Burch, he isn't going any where any time soon.
Rick Reeves! I can't even find words for this kind of nonsense.

Cider Jim wrote:Does anybody remember the name of the Florida assistant coach that we ALMOST hired instead of Hankinson?

I wonder where he is now and if he's still interested in the job.
His name was Jim Platt and he was at FSU. A couple of years after he turned down the LU job, he took the Charleston Southern job with mixed results. I believe he "resigned" and took an assistants job at Army

let me tell you, this is a ridiculous thread. dirt is being thrown on dunton and the season is not even over. what happens if we win the big south? what happens if we finish 2nd in the conference and lose to winthrop in the big south championship game? do you still fire dunton?? a lot of you people on this board should apply for the job since you all know so much about coaching and recruiting. i will still support our coaching staff and our team and keep it positive. will i criticize if it needs to happen?? oh yeah. but the continued baching form the people who do it all the time is just ridiculous. all of you haters while bashing the coach, do you realize that this effects the team too?? i understand the frustrations, and sometimes i question some coaching moves, but instead of bashing away, try being positive for a change. if a change is made im sure plenty of cash will be spent, and im sure gillen would be in the mix because he still resides in charlottesville, and loves central virginia.

I would like to see us run the table and win the Big South. I think we have the talent to do that, but not sure it would happen. If we win the BSC I will be happy, despite what some may think!! :D If RD built a dynasty here, I would be happy with that. As for affecting the team, I think they are already affected and not so much by this board. If they ARE affected by this board, they should probably not view it. But that is just me. :D

Now THAT is an interesting equation. What about last in regular season yet makes champioship game? What about 2nd in regular season, but loses first round of Tourney play? There are a lot of interesting scenarios. But I think we all can agree on three points:

1) We have a lot of talent.
2) We need to play better
3) We need to win games.

This game was very dissapointing. We should have won, but we need to finish top 3 in regular season, and win a game in the tourney. If we do that he should get at least one more year. I really am a big RD supporter, but this game was embarassing. These last 8 games have been pretty embarassing. We must get this turned around tomorrow night.

Guys you cant just get on here and post names of friends of yours you have that have once been involved in this program...I'm not going to mention names but there have been coach's mentioned in this already that have records that would cause the Dunton hater's to have a stroke if they think we've been playing bad...just further proves the hidden agendas on the mountain

I have to agree with the absolute pointlessness of this thread--especially with names of WBB coaches getting thrown around. To dispute HMO, I don't think anyone has a hidden agenda, other than the program in good hands and making steady progress and winning.

This thread isn't pointless. Dunton's resume before LU was a high school coach in Alaska. He has a losing record as our coach - yes, he was here when we won the tournament, but one in eight years is not good enough. If Falwell and Liberty wants to be serious about being top notch in athletics, Dunton has to go because he's not getting it done.

That is correct. I wouldn't judge Dunton solely on what he has done in the Big South. Year in and year out the Big South is one of the worst conferences in Division 1 basketball. Right now Winthrop is the only legitimate team in that conference. Without Winthrop the Big South is nothing. With the exception of the upset over Virginia in his first interim year I cannot think of any other legitimate win in his 6 years as coach outside of the Big South. And look at all of the blowouts we have been on the receiving end of over the last 3 years. Yes, I believe we will improve as team throughout the conference play and maybe finish in the upper half of the conference but considering the sorry state that the conference is in right now that is no big deal. What I am getting at is that Dunton should be judged on overall performance and not how we finish in one of the worst conferences that divsion 1 basketball has to offer. If the Big South is all that he is being evaluated on right now I think that in itself is pretty pathetic to say the least.

Shouldn't that be an arguement against Dunton? If he can't win in a conference as bad as the Big South, what is the arguement for him winning anywhere else?

That is correct. Just look at his non-conference record and the team's performances in the past few years. He has done nothing. LU hoops will not get past a 16 seed in the tourney the way things are going right now and that may be stretching it a bit due to Winthrop's presence in the conference.

As first reported on FlameFans by the resident scribe, a tidbit of information that says it all.
Chris Lang wrote:This is just for informational purposes more than anything, but just by looking at the RPI, it appears absolutely nothing has changed from last season.

Liberty is No. 317 (was 316 last year).
In reality, the Flames have just three wins, coming against ...
No. 332 (of 337) St. Francis
No. 323 East Carolina
No. 279 Longwood
