I hear you and it has been going on since at least 25 years ago when I got my first taste. Not much that can be done about it though. It is a family run business. No one is going to force change from outside the family. Also, I do my share of complaining about it. I just agree with some others who have pointed out that other schools do similar things to this. Down here in T-town they went after an artist for painting pictures of famous football plays and selling them for profit.
There are plenty of things to throw up your hands at but it is not like we endorsed a bigoted, unrepentant, egomaniac for President! That would make us look really out of touch with both society and our political and Christian heritage! Oh wait.... ;)

This site isn't using any official University logo or artwork or images as far as I can tell. They certainly aren't making a profit. Of course neither is LU. They are non profit remember? Wink wink

They don't really care about alumni. They care about employees. Chilling free speech is the name of the game.

They don't care about alumni or employees. They care about control.

They know who I am. I remember in my younger days when I had no filter I had someone who is now a staff member at LU threaten to come to my house and "teach me a lesson". He wasn't an LU employee at the time but that still makes me laugh. I have calmed down a lot in my old age, haha.

If this whole name change thing had happened back when I was a student my rants would be legendary.

If you want to help, maybe we could consider some sort of GoFundMe account. While I appreciate the idea of a petition, the name is going to have to change. What we need is to cover the expenses related to all of this name change business. Not cheap. Thank you guys again for the support.
Pardon my ignorance, but what kind of costs are involved?

When this is all over with, I'd be happy to give an exact amount and even what those amounts were for. Can't do that right now though.

It'd be nice to receive a PM including a little more detail about what happened here in exchange for some $ to the GoFundMe account. After reading the bit about 'Flames Nation' being used in the LU Athletic tweets, I'd assume my initial assessment yesterday is pretty close to spot on. That being said... anything related to LU, such as "Sparky" etc. is a no-go.

My guess is legal fees since this started up a few months ago and then legal fees to make sure the new stuff is above their pettiness.

From Manson's initial post, it sounds like it has been discussed and the only things really off limits are Liberty, Flames and LU If they choose to broaden it, I'm afraid The Furnace could be out Jeff Meyer coined that name for the Vines Center before we played the first game there, and it has been used to varying degrees ever since

Well, I remember that time I drove all the way to Norfolk, leaving at 6 a.m. on a Saturday, to cover the Liberty-ODU basketball game ... and I got there to find out Jerry Jr. had decided that the basketball program -- or anyone in athletics, really -- wasn't allowed to talk to me because of a petty squabble over a reader comment from someone not affiliated with the News & Advance on a story that we had published in the local section. That was my first indication of what kind of thin-skinned, Mickey Mouse operation that LU could be. Of course, my response was to continue to ask questions and make McKay feel uncomfortable up there, because I was ticked off. That was the only time I ever cursed at anyone in authority in the athletics department, because when Jeff told me about it, I told him it was #!@& cowplop. He didn't really disagree, either. I sympathize with Jon and Duke. There are really, really good people that work in the athletics department who want nothing to run a professional program and organization. But as can be the case, someone way up the food chain can make a stupid decision and make everyone look bad. That LU is threatened by this site says something about what kind of influence it has inside the LU bubble. Best of luck, gents.

Im guessing that you meant for that to sound a little differently on the second and third line...I get what youre saying but I had to put a couple words in while reading it that made it make more sense first
