Point #4. Hank should have been given a couple more years. That way he may have been able to fully implement his defensive scheme  LU is a D-I job with a decent facility and solid financial backing. Who knows the numbers and quality of coaches that would have applied if the job had not been back-doored four years ago.
Wow, I was unaware of the existance of any real Hankinson fans. He was about as unsuccessful as it gets on this level of competition.
I should have used a sarcasm icon on the first part of point 4. Hank was dismal.

That's not true... when they pack 100 people into that place it really rocks!

9,000 seat arena.....

and who in our conference has a larger arena then ours?? Just curious, because I remember looking around at the schools when I first got to liberty in 2003 seeing if we had the largest and I don't remember seeing a larger one...I could be wrong though
I thought it was 6000. If it's 9000, then we have the biggest arena.
yes we do have the biggest arena with 9,000.

1. New teams take time to develope and jell as a team; and we can still get this thing done this season; there is ample time.

2. Any success in the history of LU basketball is connected with Dunton being here as the head coach or top assistant. He is not a loser and given the context I think that he's been more than respectable.

3. Dunton is a player's coach and if he gets terminated it may be a bigger set-back than some of you are prepared to deal with.

4. The LU basketball job is not as coveted as some of you seem to imagine. Guys like Dunton and Meyer may be as good as it gets here at this juncture. Granted, if we move up to a bigger conference, then we could draw some higher profile interest. At that point, all bets are off and we take the big time guy, if available. I'm a little hesitant to jump on the wagon to let this guy go and potentially inherit the next Hankinson.

OK PARADOX I will break it down using your points to help you out:

1. New teams do not necessarily take time to gel. Alot of teams gel rather quickly (The Fab 5 come to mind) ALso, why do we always seem to have a "young team" every year? Is it too much to hope for a senior laden team?

2. All successs that LU has had in MBB does not come from RD. There were success (even a national title) before RD and will be if he leaves. Or stays.

3. What does being a player's coach have to do with the price of tea in china? :P Is he the ONLY coach that has that style? And what type of set back are you predicting? Some could argue that with the amount of talent we have, a change in coaches might mean a huge jump in wins. I don't think too many people argue the amount of talent we have.

4. This is a division 1 program. We will get about 100 resume's IF the job opens up. Also, being a Christian university, think of all the NAIA, DII and DIII Christian college coaches out there that are successful. I am FAIRLY certain there are a lot that would apply. And who knows, we may not get the next hankinson, we might get the next "Jim Tressel" of basketball.

Hope that helps.

Actually yes...don't hold your breath for a senior laden team, Dunton falls in love with freshmen, and starts them, and then replaces them...unless they are Larry Blair. And I am pretty sure there are very few head coaches planning conference domination by using transfers with 1 year of elegibility....tough to develop leaders that way.

At least we seem to have gotten to the point where people on BOTH sides are being more objective. I appreciate that- we all need to learn to see both sides- and I know we all want the same thing- winning teams at LU
having said that- there was a really interesting point brought up; is LU being LU and located where LU is a help or a hinderance?
I would argue that Carey Green, Coach Tolsma, and Danny Rocco are but 3 examples of why it is NOT impossible to bring in great talent here. I'm not saying easy- but certainly not impossible. Maybe a young up-and-comer who just wants a chance?Maybe a seasoned vet who's looking for a new challenge- and Liberty may just be the place?

This isn't a call for Coach Dunton's head either- I think we need to wait until the end of the season at LEAST. And then you know as well as I do who's gonna pull the trigger- and he doesn't give a rat's patoot what we think :mrgeeen:
LU is absolutely a hindrance to itself. This job is certainly coveted, however, good players have virtually no desire to live under LU rules. It's just the reality of life. D-I ball is a high profile sport with high maitenance atheletes, and LU does not lend itself well to accomodating high maintenance players. My oldest brother played at LU and he often says "LU is just a hard sell". I think he's spot-on, it's not an impossible sell, just a very difficult one.

I saw the words Gabe Martin and leader used in the same sentence.....please refrain from that. He was a valuable player, but was never a leader, on or off the court.

Wright played big in the first, not too much in the second. Lawson didn't do anything spectacular, but was consistent....Green played well, and Thomas played a good amount of minutes

A player's coach tends to endear a certain amount of loyalty from some of his players
 You are making one of our own points for us. How has that loyalty worked out over the past 3 years?
