With LUO having a strong military presence, it would be great to play those teams regularly.

EDIT: you would likely have some unique fans... One's pulling for Liberty one week, against the next.

They are playing AT Florida Atlantic next season, AT Hawaii in 2018, and AT Southern Miss in 2019. I have a feeling they would prefer a home and home with us over that garbage. lol

I may be wrong, but this talk of going indy in football is lunacy. The chances of ever getting into a bowl game would be zero. There is no conference title to play for, etc. I know that as a fan and a season ticket holder for 20+ years, (not sure that reflects well on me or not), I would not be near as interested in the program. Yes, it would be somewhat of a step up, but that would have to lead to a quick invite to a conference and don't see that in the cards and certainly won't be a guarantee.
With Coastal out of the league, we SHOULD have no real competition for the auto-bid every year and maybe if we can make some noise in the playoffs occasionaly, we can enhance our profile a bit and get a FBS invite. Going .500 in an indy league doesn't seem to be a better option.

Rumor has it that Arizona State and Notre Dame are joining the B1G...

Bada Bing! Let's keep the hockey news clearly identified as such.

Obviously the only school that Notre Dame would pair with in joining any league resides in Austin. And that is highly unlikely as well even with Coach "I'm a Man" doing his best to push the Horns out of the league.

With the rumored Big XII expansion, ODU is looking to jump the C-USA ship to the AAC.
Column | Big 12 expansion could give ODU an opening to a bigger, better conference

The Big 12 is mulling expansion, and if it decides to grow, it could provide an opening for ODU to move to the American Athletic Conference.

When asked whether ODU would be interested in the AAC, athletic director Wood Selig replied that he is happy in Conference USA and that the school is focused on trying to become as competitive as it can be.

Artfully said. ODU was grateful when C-USA invited the Monarchs to join in 2012, a move that allowed them to move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision. C-USA officials have been sensitive when ODU has voiced concerns and school President John Broderick chairs the league’s board of directors.

But there’s not a school in the league that would turn down an invitation from the AAC. It has a much higher profile and is the ultimate destination for any member of a mid-major football league.

So should UConn not get invited to the Big XII, they're going to push to add UMass to the AAC. The absolute worse case scenario in this round is the Big XII adds BYU and Cincinnati, AAC adds UMass. That wouldn't be enough dominoes falling for us to move up...

Within the friendly confines of Big South Conference, I think the non football playing schools in the conference should be replaced. (If replacements can be found) When schools like Radford, Longwood, High Point and Campbell do not play football, it waters down the conference.

Along those same lines, I have yet to figure out why longwood got admitted to the conference since they not play football.

Because contrary to popular belief (or whatever thinking you espouse), while football is a moneymaker, the universe doesn't revolve around it...and as an added bonus, if you actually did a little more homework, you would know that Campbell DOES play football...

Anyway, If the Big South had only football playing schools (Campbell notwithstanding), we barely would have enough to keep our automatic bid in football, AND do you realize the scheduling nightmare that could ensue for every other sport in the non-conference as well as conference play? Add to that travel partnership arrangements (which already have to be shifted some with CCU moving to the Sun Belt), and the fact that there would be only 4 teams in the Big South since Monmouth and Kennesaw State are football only members. Its not as cut and dried as you seem to think it is ballcoach

Regardless of how one looks at it, non football schools water down any conference. But all in all, the BSC is probably the weakest conference in NCAA, all sports considered.

While we weren't looking, the Sun Belt Conference kicked Idaho and New Mexico State out of the club. Idaho has decided to drop down to the FCS. What does that mean for us?

From USA Today

Idaho expected to leave FBS for FCS

http://usat.ly/1SBe1Nn

The University of Idaho football program is expected to drop down to the FCS level in light of an uncertain future for its conference at the FBS level.According to a report by Football Scoop, Idaho president Chuck Staben is expected to make the announcement Thursday. The Sun Belt Conference announced in March that it would not renew the Vandals' membership following the 2017 season; New Mexico State was also voted out. A person familiar with Idaho's plans told USA TODAY Sports that the Vandals are telling future opponents that 2018 would be the earliest season they would move to the FCS. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the move has not been announced.

Yeah. This thread has lost a lot of steam. A year ago someone would have been out in front of that news and people would be saying we were a lock for the Sun Belt.

Maybe we as fans have given up on the idea, or we think our recent return to the news pages (Trump, concealed carry, VHSL boycotts, et al.) has ruined our chances of being considered. I can assure you that the decision makers at Liberty University are still committed to the move.

Of course they are. No one is doubting that. We paid real money for a study that validated our readiness for said move, with the assumption that the PR from the announcement would instantly make us a real candidate. The problem is that we started working the real decision makers in the various conferences we are pursuing (the presidents/chancellors) a little too late. While it seems as if we have made some progress, we likely have taken some steps back in the minds of some of these presidents. The issue here is whether we can avoid becoming like JSU, which has been seeking a move to the FBS for the better part of a decade, despite having no real suitors.
