There was an article this past weekend in the Lynchburg rag that had a very intresting quote at the end of the article

Falwell has said he would like to add a new 18,000-seat convocation hall in the next several years to the campus’ facilities, which have been greatly enhanced over the past two years.

yeah i read that a few days ago...very interesting...I wonder if they would be into building something much like UVA's new arena....or just a bigger version of the Vines (which would be terrible...but I am sure it would be cheap)

Something like JPJA would be nice. I have seen a video tour online and it looks sweet.

Perhaps where they had originally planned to build TRBC.

It would be a good idea IF we work with the city/county in terms of filling up its calendar. That is a big building that could hold a lot of potentials vis a vis conventions, seminar's concerts etc. (Also flash back to the proposed new Hilton Garden coming to town.) I THINK we have the population to support it though, but it will have to be more than just an LU thing.

Remind me where that was. With it being used for convo, it has to be somewhere central to DeMoss.

They could build it on the area of land where the dorms are going up but closer to the airport side of the land. I think a city or county partnership would be good too. My only concern is LU might not go into that in terms of scheduling events that don't fit into the Liberty atmosphere (ie. WWF werstling or mainstream rock concerts) Opinions?

Gotta watch out for the new mall over there. That's the same general vicinity.

When all the stores from River Ridge mall bolt for the new mall, buy River Ridge on the cheap, level it and put your LU/City Partnership state of the Art Showpiece there...easy access to the general population, plenty of parking to hold you over until you need to build a parking garage...oh, you mean in reality, maybe put it where the Circle dorms are now.

Oh it is really nice...I went there for WWE Raw a few months back and was impressed, and it was actually completely done yet....there were a few minor things I saw that could be problematic, but it was like the second event held there ever, so I am sure they are just working out the kinks...

Something like that for Liberty would be amazing....

That's the best plan I've heard yet. River Ridge and the surrounding parking are perfectly set up for an arena to be built where the mall is. River Ridge certainly (hopefully!) not going to last after the new mall opens. Someone get this onto Jr.'s desk. We need that property.

that is a very good idea...but i had no idea this new mall was going to be a full fledged mall like river ridge...i thought it was going to be a smaller outdoor type mall....maybe i was wrong....if so that is a great idea....if anybody could get that done it would be JF jr....he knows how to work the property around here

Guys, the article said it would be used for convocation. There's no way to have classes in DeMoss and then get to this place for convo. It would have to be where the Circle is now.

you're right SJ...but if it weren't for the convo part it be the best place for it....the article simply said they plan on building a larger convocation center...they did not quote anybody...to the outside world a convocation center would mean events center...so maybe they will still hold convo in the Vines/TRBC...who knows....but all I know is that if this 25,000 student thing happens one day convo will have to be gone or done completely different because even with a 18,000 seat arena you won't have enough space....

I like the idea of having this new arena possibly where the circle is now. The River Ridge location also sounds intresting.

They're going to have to do some serious traffic planning if they put it in the circle location. The parking for Vines Center is bad enough as it is (when there's something happening in there that actually fills the place up), so I don't know how they'd deal with double the parking and traffic. I like it, but it would not be fun to be on Main during an event that you weren't attending.

Maybe they'll have to demolish Vines, move basketball into Schilling again (temporarily) and build a new center in it's place. At least it'd be easier to pack our place out for basketball games.

I laughed at the second.

Has anyone tried to google what we affectionately dubbed "Jerry's Boob" back in my day? Does the Satellite pick it up on google maps?

no, the google sites dont have pictures of the liberty area and i think this is due to the airport because i dont think they are allowed to show satelite images of airports anymore due to terrorism,

Google Maps doesn't pick it up as the Yahoo! Maps Beta does. ;)
