Moral of the story. I hate DC.
I hate Dallas. Want to trade places?

Snowstorms are one of the items I use to keep me in Lynchburg... if I'm completely honest with myself. I have a feeling the days of bragging about the TX economy might be coming to a screeching halt at some point this year. Oil prices are just way too low and demand is going to keep falling off now that China's growth is shrinking. On top of that, Iran is now able to sell oil again, which only serves to make the supply issue worse in terms of the price of oil from the producers standpoint. I just don't see how TX, the Dakotas, etc. don't take huge hits from this. Of course when the dust settles, there will be huge opportunities as a result.

Houston's taking a big hit from the oil downturn. Dallas, on the other hand, has a very diversified economy and isn't suffering from the downturn at this point:
http://bizbeatblog.dallasnews.com/2016/ ... ound.html/
“Houston is definitely taking it on the chin with regard to oil prices,” said Brad Hunter, top economist for housing analyst Metrostudy Inc. “We are seeing a 14 percent decline in terms of housing starts.

“We are seeing some impact on home prices there as well.”

That’s not the case in North Texas, which is expected to see a gain in home starts in 2016.

“Dallas housing starts are up 17 percent,” Hunter said. “Dallas is not suffering at all from the oil decline.”

Meanwhile, big snows for NW NC, all of the Piedmont and Central VA and up into DC and parts of MD. The NWS finally caught up with all the data and upped their snowfall totals to include Lynchburg receiving 14-20" of snow.

This is going to be quite the event. Not looking forward to the clean up but as long as we keep power it'll be a fun one.

I've got the windshield wipers up, the anti-freeze in the gas tank, pressure-washed the engine, and just put chains on the front two tires so I wouldn't wear out the back two.

Except WSET...that forecast is awful. They can't make up their mind and really messed up with their initial prediction of 8"-12." Then want to put up all of the record totals on the screen...why would you do that for a storm you think is only bringing 12" max? I think the EURO model has this pretty well pegged and we'll be pushing a new record. 1-2" margin either way.

Yeah I saw they just had 8-14" called for in LYH. They specifically say that's because of a sleet mixture. I haven't seen any weather model at the 500mb (18k ft), 700mb (10k ft), or 925mb (2.5k ft) show temperatures above freezing, so I'm not sure why they are anticipating anything but snow at this point. The trend the past 3 days has been depicting the storm as being colder overall at this point, which is what is driving up snow totals in Central VA around Richmond. I still think 14-18" is what we end up with.

Completely agree. Even the NAM which runs warmer than the rest really doesn't show too much of a mix....but if they're relying on the NAM then they have bigger problems. I'm still leaning higher...not as high as the EURO has us but right at the 21" mark.

This is just my personal opinion but this is the first big storm since Sean Sublette left and they're nervous overshooting this thing. I don't blame them for that...but you can't be more than half lower than everyone else unless you're someone like TWC with your own equipment and data that isn't common knowledge (like the NYC bust last year that everyone missed but TWC).

The crazies were out in force in Farmville on Tuesday. I took off work at 3:30 so I could also beat the post-work traffic. Longest lines you'll see outside of Christmas season.

I think tonight will be just as much if not more once the sleet flips to snow....which I expect it to do.
