We originally had him listed as a WR prospect. But based on the "hard hitter" reference, we have changed his designation to his defensive positions of strong safety and weakside linebacker.

Welcome to the LU family, Jalen!

South Forsyth football standout Camp commits to Liberty

South Forsyth receiver and defensive back Jalen Camp has received recruiting attention from Georgia Tech, Illinois, Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee State. A late bloomer physically and a new student of the game, Camp still has his senior season in front of him to prove to college coaches what he’s made of.

All of that, for now, is moot.

Camp committed last Saturday to play for Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., just hours after attending a prospect camp on campus. At the time of his commitment, Camp also held an offer from Illinois State, which reached the national championship game in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in 2014-15.
Jalen states LU's decision to pay the full cost of attendance played a big role in choosing LU ...
Liberty, a well-endowed non-profit university with an online enrollment of over 100,000 students, has the financial clout, often absent with FCS programs, necessary to independently mandate similar benefits to its student athletes.

“That was one of the first things that stood out,” Camp said. “I also like that they’ve had a 100 percent graduation rate of student athletes for the past four seasons. That’s a really big deal to me.”

I saw this kid play last week. If he lined up at LB or Safety I didn't notice. He spent the majority of time on offense. He seemed to play most of his time at WR or TE. He didn't look to big from the stands but my son, OLB, lined up against him when he was at TE and after the game told me he was very big and strong. Here is an article from Forsyth News this week about POY candidates and how they are doing. His team is 4-0 and #1 in the region. He plays in the top classification in GA. Good recruit.
JALEN CAMP, SOUTH FORSYTH

Last season: Camp caught 37 passes for 608 yards and seven touchdowns to help the War Eagles return to the state playoffs for the first time since 2010.

This season: The senior wide receiver has caught 14 passes for 218 yards and four touchdowns and three carries for 10 yards through four games for South (4-0).

The verdict: Camp isn’t producing Player of the Year-type numbers, but that’s mostly a product of the extreme balance South has been able to achieve so far this season. That doesn’t mean Camp isn’t having a POY-type impact. He’s averaging 15.6 yards per catch and a touchdown catch per game.

Thanks for the report! While he does play receiver now, based on his efforts in camp and our team needs it appears that he will be a defensive player for us. He apparently really impressed our staff this summer.

Based on my conversation with my sophomore OLB son he impressed him. He said, he's large and fast. I suspect he's just a overall big strong athlete who with some instruction can play on either side of the ball. Glad to have him head our direction.

Jalen looks like just the type of athlete we want to play the safety/LB hybred ¨Spur¨ position. Wimberly mentioned in an interview that we were fortunate to find a kid like Corbin Jackson, who was recruited as a CB and is a bit undersized, but can play there because of his combination of speed and physicality. I believe we now are recruiting players with a bit more size specifically to play the Spur.

how big should the "spur" body type be, especially since its not being played by a true LB type, and is really an every down nickel type of defense.

Classy tweet from Camp on his decision to decommit.

Keep in mind GT is not only a P5, it is one of the 2 major universities in his home state. I don´t know if he grew up a Rambling Wreck fan, but it´s close to a 50/50 chance he did.

Very classy indeed...TG and the boys definitely will miss him but at the very least he didn't throw Liberty under the Ramblin Wreck in the process. I wish him well as he heads to Atlanta.

This is the part that sucks the worst. He locked himself into something early on and played himself into something that is perceived to be better. It is partially to be expected when comparing a P5 to 1-AA offer. The thing is that has occurred in the past is that they go to P5 it doesn't work and they want to try and come back. He left in a way that I think would allow him to possibly come back.

I guess the question is really what do they project him as over there. A defensive or offensive player. On offense you know they don't throw the ball a lot, so he gets there sees its not what he thought and transfers out, but on defense his size alone says OLB and I guess its just where he fits into there rotation.

Future still bright wish him the best

I wouldn't worry too much. Looks like we have a several more high caliber skill players that are seriously interested. I'm not sure gt is a great fit like forbidden said but I get it. Also Johnsons seat is warming bit.

GT wide receivers have a lot of blocking responsibilities, so the like them big and physical like Calvin Johnson and Deymerious Thompson. Jalen may not be as fast as those guys, but he is physical.

Yes, indeed they do but lets be clear on one thing HS physical and college physical is two totally different animals all together.
