Disappointing on the whole but much more palatable beating Coastal in their last Big South game and on 'national' tv.

JW put up nice numbers and had a nice career but he limited himself in becoming something special
Those who are #firegill let's hear those reasons

I think he earned another year yesterday. What really irks me is that this team was so awful on the road. There really is no reason for us to not win 8-9 games next season.

And don't get to excited about beating SMU. That is a very young squad this year and Matt Davis is maturing into a very capable QB. They will be a much, much better team next year.

I'll give him a pass this year. there is no excuse to lose any big south games next year. Chadwell will be gone and CSU will be (hopefully) in a rebuild and Coastal isn't a conference game.

So, there seems to be a consensus that Chadwell will be moving on from Chucky South, and I certainly get that, but do we think a bunch of players will transfer out if that happens? He put together a solid staff and somehow got some pretty good players to come there as well. If he leaves for a HC job, he will take most of the staff with him, but if it´s a major college assistant or coordinator job, that won´t be the case. I´m thinking if they have a capable assistant they can hire from within they may be able to retain most of the staff and not lose too many players..

ALL of the being said, there in lies one problem, LU will be starting either a true frosh or another QB with only 2 starts under his belt so eery game will could be a learning exp for them to. So to say that we should win however many games is a bit premature. Not like JW is coming back as a 6th year SR. OMG, if that was to happen this place would implode

Some of our best seasons have been with a younger QB. Mike Brown's senior season and Josh Woodrum's senior season could both be categorized as disappointments.

that is probably true but if its not Masha who may as well truly be a freshman under center, then playing with either of the other two B's it would be so much better going into next year if they both at least had one year of college under there belts instead of everything being possibly new to them.
It clearly seems that the "message" had gotten old and stale to JW, and hence that is why the play on the field from a 4yr starter 3 yr captain parlayed down to the field of play. Def time for a fresh start. One thing for sure is that all WR's will now work super hard to build a new repore with whomever the QB is will also be good, always told to me that usually the first one open (unless its a primary target) is usually the one the ball is thrown to.

Didn't UCLA start a true Freshman? Didn't Baylor throw a true Freshman out there? More and more you are seeing true Freshmen playing by enrolling early for Spring Practice. It will be interesting to see if one of the QB's do that

Yearick is enrolling this January. He was probably rated a notch or 2 behind Calvert, but having a Spring camp to learn the system could certainly equalize things. It will also help our staff a lot to have another QB in camp. Hard to get the receivers the reps they need with only one scholarship QB and a walk-on.

There will be 4 qbs in spring ball if Leonard is still on the roster: Masha, Swanson, and Yearick as well. It'll probably come down to Masha and Yearick when all is said and done though

don't fool yourself on that my $$$ is on Calvert, yes spring ball will def give him an edge, hell he'll be here since Jan getting a lot of it down but I think that if that slinger from Miami does ink that paper he's going to be not just thrown in the mix but THROWN in the mix.

looking back on both the lil highlights I say both are accurate (tape of course shows that) but I am hoping that this staff will find a way to keep that mobility that has seemed to hurt a lot of defenses in mind.

To make a quick and dirty comparison between the 2 freshmen, Calvert has the stronger arm and probably better overall ärm talent¨while Yearick also has good accuracy, and has been more of a dual threat in his HS career. (Not in Masha´s league as a runner though).

As long as we (read: BeeJay especially) can agree not to call Calvert "Buckshot" for four years, I'm okay with it.

Otherwise, he will annoy me for no reason other than that name.

Training camp will be the final arbiter of the situation but it'll probably be Masha and Yearick who will come out of spring ball as the top two I mean.

I think there may be a tweak or too, ST will def see a change

OC will I think will be asked to do some things differently but will get another chance
DC isn't going anywhere

OL - better grow up quick, that unit is under some fire
DL - not a chance

RB - both were good neither stayed that healty
LB - #9 and #30 are still here he is safe

WR - just got here and isn't going anywhere
DB - not going anywhere, but a tweak or too may happen

QB - this will be interesting to say the least, fresh new faces will really see whats being taught/learned/executed

not to many may have seen, but I was standing right behind JB during that frantic 4th and his emotions were priceless, anxiety and jubilation is not a good healthy diet. Like someone was saying winning may have def saved a job or too, or that man has a great poker face.

Special Teams Coach!

Even if it is moved around. Our current Special Teams coach is also the Tight Ends coach. So he could remain TE coach.

But bringing someone in from the outside for special teams would be good!

I think Wagner, Stamn, and Fobbs are the only ones that are in any danger.

Our rushing attack has gotten significantly worse each other the last three years. We rushed for 184 yards per game in 2013, 163 last year, and only 119 this year. At the same time, our total offense has gone from 420 yards per game in 2013 to only 379 this year.

Our special teams have been consistently bad under Gill. I believe a large part of this is because there's no one guy overseeing everything. Fobbs has the title but different people oversee different portions of the unit. With the title comes the responsibility of the entire unit. We need a significant change in strategy in that facet of the game.

Lastly, something has to change in mental preparation. We were 1-5 on the road this year and only one of those games was in an environment that was anything near hostile. We are 4-10 in non conference road games over the past four years. We have to get better at that.

I don't even know that it needs to be someone on the outside. It just needs to be someone who owns the entire unit and not bits and pieces going to different guys.

I obviously didn't see him, but what you described is the state of mind I thought he was in. Had we lost, today wouldn't have been pretty. Gill would've still been here, but quite a few others wouldn't.
