Purple said in the game thread that Woodrum was yelling at the coaches after the game. Anyone know what that was about?

It was at the end of the game during the Victory formation fracas. He yelled at the OC. Turned around said something to HCTG who sternly said something. JW yelled something else and HCTG pointed back to the OC huddle and said Run Victory. JW turned around, rolled his eyes and basically acted like a petulant child

He didn´t get a chance to try a long FG, but I suspect Lunsford got the attention of the NFL scouts in attendance when he kicked off from the 20 after Sommer´s dumb penalty and the ball came down at the 2 yard line. That penalty could have really hurt us. They did run it back to the 33, but that´s actually really good when you kick off from there.

I don't think anyone doubts his leg. Just his accuracy. And that was a heck of a kick
What was the penalty for?

Not only did he kick it 78 yards, he also was able to get some direction and kick it away from Brown. Abecrombe is a pretty good KR, but Brown is flat out scary, especially in a situation like that where the cover team has an extra 15 yards to run.

I saw what looked like a few heated Discussions from Woodrum towards OC during the game, but the last one was the most confusing to me. Maybe he just was afraid they wouldn't give him the game ball and they were fighting over it!?!?!? Ha

Leave it to Josh to take what should have been his finest moment and turn it into a negative. What did he want to do, throw the ball? I guess he didn´t think the 4 year starter 3 year captain should end his career taking 3 knees. Back atya Woodrum.

With all the positive chatter about the game and the atmosphere in the stadium, I hope ESPN will come back someday to do a GameDay show on campus. More importantly, I hope our performance on the field gives them a reason to return.

I believe ESPN is commited to doing one gameday a year at an FCS site. I think they are now well aware that they won´t find a better atmosphere to hold it, but the game will have to be one that is meaningful on a national scale like the JMU-Richmond game was this year.

The powder toss by the students was pretty awesome. That needs to become a thing every game. It can be what the toilet paper was back in Schilling.

SuperJon wrote:My way too early prediction for next year is that we could very likely rack up 8 wins in a rebuilding year if a few things fall our way. If Chadwell leaves CSU that's a win. And if Coastal redshirts the majority of their new guys that's a win. The two FBS games are losses. Robert Morris and Jacksonville should be wins. If we schedule another bad out of conference team for our last game, that should be a win. We may very well go the Coastal route of an easy schedule leading to a lot of wins. I'm okay with that in a rebuilding year.
We could split the FBS games. JMU beat SMU, so we're certainly capable of doing it, too. I don't know what kind of Virginia Tech team we'll be facing, either. They aren't exactly dominant with a 5-5 record, which includes a loss to 5-6 East Carolina, and it will be their first year without Frank Beamer.

Even so, an eight win season isn't bad in a year featuring a new starting QB (Masha? Calvert? Yearick?). Improvements to the O-line and defensive secondary will put us on the path to greater success.

I know i've been labeled a hater here and not positive enough for you koolaide drinkers on the board but I'm going to have an Old Hag/ Proud post right now:
When about 15-20 of us started the LUnatics back in 2006 I never could have imagined how big and hope awesome that student section has grown. The powder toss gave me chills and i have grown very fond of Jerry's Jokers. What an unbelievable atmosphere. Kudos to the students and admin for making such an atmosphere possible. As for the game, I predicted either a blow out or a close win and I am happy that we won. am I frustrated at what could have been? of course. But we won the rivalry game and that is the #1 priority in my book. I still have my doubts about the coaching staff but again I am happy and I am going to be happy on how we ended the season. despite my criticism over the years I love my school and I am proud of what it has accomplished.

I said this in the game thread but Im glad that the guys had more faith in their chances than a lot of people on here did (I won't say all because there were those on here who weren't hedging their bets or picking an outright loss). They went out there and made the plays that they needed to make when they mattered. I wish they had made a few more of those in the G-W and/or Monmouth games and force the hand of the committee.

Say what you want about Woodrum but for all the strong dislike of the guy off the field and the hair pulling moments at times on the field, he still leaves as the all-time leading passer. Im glad we had some consistency at the QB position the last 4 years and Im looking forward to the battle kicking up between Masha and Yearick and hoping to see Calvert sign in February and joining the battle next summer.

My sister unfortunately broke the DVR so the game didn't get recorded here last night, so hopefully I can catch the game on ESPN3 or somebody is able to upload the game to youtube where the rest of us can watch it.

I am disappointed in how this season worked out, but its not time to focus on what might have been, but to look ahead to next year and a fresh start. Go Flames and let the offseason begin!

All I can say is there board is clearly comparable to ours when things don't go right, they want boty OC and DC gone over there, I was starting to wonder did the two staffs just switch positions for the night, lol

If we had beaten G-W and Monmouth the committees choice would have been a no brainer. I still think we would have had a solid chance if we had beaten CSU, but I think it´s time to admit that they were clearly the best team in the conference this year.

He only has that record of distinction due to the fact he's never had to face competition his for years here, otherwise he would/should have been replaced under center a lot earlier in his career. What's done is done cant blame him coaches left him in there and he played the hand dealt to him, he produced but just not always when needed.

Very happy with the win. In our entire time in the Big South, we beat them 7 times, and they beat us 6. Head to head, we were slightly better. They may have scheduled better and benefited from crazy tiebreakers...but between the lines...we were slightly better!!!

That said...I don't know what happened at the end...but there was some confusion...so I'm going to give Woodrum the benefit of the doubt.

Here's what happened...

We had the ball...Coastal had 2 timeouts with I think about 50 seconds left. We appeared to snap the ball and Woodrum just stood there, not taking a knee right away...I think this is what they told him to do, because we needed to run a little time to make sure we could run out the clock. Because if we immediately kneeled with no time off...they're might have been a couple of ticks left on fourth down. But during the first victory formation, when we took the first snap...Woodrum stood there for a couple of seconds before he took the knee...I think this is what he was told to do....but then the the refs blew the whistle and said that Coastal had called their first timeout BEFORE the snap.

In other words, Coastal was credited with the timeout even though the clock had already stopped for change of possession. And this allowed us to run out the clock with the victory formation without running a real play other than the victory formation.

But I wasn't sure what down it was...if that snap counted...we needed to run a couple of seconds off...because it would have been second down and not first...then it would have been close as to whether we could have run out the clock completely, or there would have been a couple of seconds left. So maybe thats what Woodrum was yelling about...maybe he wanted us to run a play...I thought we were going to have to run one play before the timeout was credited before the snap...

That being the case...all we needed to do was end up in the victory formation.

he's a player not a coach, he has had enough problems trying to execute plays as it is, just run what is called, im sure for the most part HCTG has been in this type situation before in coaching and or playing and had the scenario thought out.

I almost 100% certain that this team will miss him in some circumstances, but in others they most definitely will not.

I understand that. But there was some confusion at the end and heat of the moment.

Either that first time-out was credited before the first snap of the series...or they never changed the down marker.

I was just giving Woodrum the benefit of the doubt for yelling something during that last series...he might have just been yelling "DON'T WE NEED TO RUN A PLAY TO WASTE ABOUT 5 SECONDS?"

I'm not defending his interviews earlier in the year, etc.

Just some confusion at the end.
