Is it? I didn't realize...

**EDIT**

That was a little too snarky, even for me.

Life in DC both professionally and personally the past 2 years have been a whirlwind and I can't even believe we have already been here for over two years. The plan a year ago was to go to homecoming this past weekend but then baby #2 came and the game was at 7. Both the wife and I want to get to Lynchburg before we leave DC in less than 2 years now but other things have taken priority.

If all goes as planned we will be at homecoming next year.

Thanks Sly for your astute advice. I would be lost without it.

Agreed about the rink.

In some aspects, OK. But in lots of other areas, there is no comparison.

I'm assuming Division I, but we all know what happens when we do that...I'll let them clarify it.

Club? Yup. For now. But that term is kind of outdated when you refer to men's acha d1. The funding and practices of many programs has started to blur the lines. Liberty is at the front of that pack.

When the P5 football leagues leave the NCAA will we call that club too?
Will the outdoor game be played in Roanoke?

If this is going to happen, it will be on campus. You can rest assured of that. I think it would be a really well attended event. I'm just not sure it would be worth the extra costs involved... the set-up and tear down... the wear-and-tear on the new field turf...

How often does that field turf get replaced?

They are digging up a bunch of the parking lot at River Ridge Mall between LUO and Shakers. Not sure if that is mall thing, an LU thing, or a Civic Center thing.

I knew there were plans to build a hotel IF the civic center was built. I don't remember anything on that side of the property... but maybe.

Yes. That is the location of the work going on. They also tore down the old car dealership... I have no idea what that is about.
rogers3 wrote:Heard that a Steak n Shake as well as a Residence Inn are both planned for outparcels at the Mall. The Steak n Shake was a result of LU's re-parceling their lot and selling off a space for a good chunk of change. Locals should be happy, as it will be back on the tax rolls and will be worth much more than an empty lot.

Where was this? On the mall property somewhere?

Yeah yeah. But that was like 20 pages ago. I chortle audibly.

Am I right that the Steak & Shake was <supposed> to be finished by now?
Steak & Shake was approved before the hotel, just got started later. Both are underway now. Certainly some odd twists in the mall's story and the LU wanting to sell the Sears bldg, the mall being on the market, and new development on outparcels. I wonder if that makes the site more attractive.

Are you referencing the old car dealership on Wards Road below the mall? That actually used to be a strip mall where New Life Books & Gifts was located. I remember the place becaue it was the first ever sponsor of the student radio station back in the day when I inked them to a deal when it was WLBU radio. I remember going to the place a zillion times trying to actually close the deal.

No, that's Berglund Toyota, which even bought the old Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse across the street where I interviewed in 1985. :oldhag

I think Kia was there for a while as well. I think they had to abandon the site, though, after some pranksters pushed a car over the hill onto Wards road one night.

Ohh. I think it was KIA and maybe Suzuki? I remember the company ran a 'Buy 1 Get 1 Free' car deal back in the Boom Days of 2000's
