The Lynchburg Planning Commission gave a nod of approval to Liberty University’s desire to convert a former motel into apartments for graduate and married students.

The university applied for a conditional use permit to convert the former motel, known as the Annex II dormitory, into apartments for married and graduate students.

For the record, this place is flat out awesome!
Great ideas come out of Texas every once in a while, just like a blind squirrel finding a nut

I'm not sure I understand why the school would decide to fight the family on this one. Sure, the court order may indeed indicate that the cemetery be located on campus, but the campus has changed dramatically over the years and the family wants it moved. This seems like a legitimate concern. After Jr. told the family they'd move it, why would he change his mind? I doubt it's about the money. This just seems like another case of the school shooting itself in the foot. The whole thing could have been easily avoided and everyone could have been happy.

I think your answer may be buried in this line:
“My opinion is they’re not in that plot that they have fixed at Liberty. Who knows where they are? I hope they find out.

point being: this is what happens when you try to make people happy. so don't.

EDIT: evidently I'm having one of those cynical days.

Perhaps I'm completely misreading the situation, but at this point I'm confused. Liberty offered something that the family wanted and then took it away, right? That's not trying to make them happy. That's getting someone excited about something and then not doing it.

I admitted that I could have been misreading the situation. Given Liberty's track record, I'm not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point.

SLY always defaults to LU's is blameless. 'It's not as cut and dry....' Based on past performances that are too lengthy to mention you could at least give us a reason WHY it may be different than reported.

This is such a weird story, and obviously the entire story isn't known. My most logical guess is that they've realized that it's possible that some remains have already been disturbed and if they get into removing the remains they're likely not to find what they're supposed to so the best option to avoid a potential lawsuit is to try to leave what's still there there and claim and have the courts say that they've done what they could to this point.
