It is a strange position we find ourselves in, looking for CCU to do well and support us if the SBC decides to expand again. I would find it easier to root for their success were it not for the snarky remarks Hogue and DeCenzo made on accepting their invitation. Regardless of whether it is in Liberty´s best interest or not, I believe CCU faces some really stiff challenges, first and foremost being that they really are not well situated to make the increases in their fan base/attendance they need to make, or as flameshaw puts it, ¨put butts in the seats¨.

Coastal is already in line with many G5's.... I've been watching some of the G5 games on TV this season ..... from a TV standpoint our home games already put most to shame.

Lang's opinion is that CCU is a lock to vote for us for SBC membership. You gotta think that is true. The only way they will ever fill that new stadium is for them to play us. We travel well and might have more fans there than them. 8)

Home games against app may help them fill it too. I hope cusa comes calling before sun belt just to stick it to the sbc.

Who would vote us into C-USA? Besides ODU...

We've got no shot with C-USA in its current state.

Very little shot if it changes either in my opinion. Liberty is probably 4th or 5th name that consistently comes up among people in that league when talking expansion. I heard a lot of talk from important people in that league and those communities when UAB lost football and Liberty rarely came up.

The CUSA will need a West member. For now, they are set in the East. If and when the time comes, I see them being more interested in Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, or South Alabama.

It still looks like at this point the Sun Belt is the only conference route into FBS for us, and that seems quite unlikely. So...BYU has put together a pretty nice schedule for their level...

For C-USA, in addition to doing some serious damage on the football field, we need to substancially upgrade the status of our MBB program. Yes, conference realignment is mostly about football, but unlike the SBC, C-USA is a huge step up from the BSC in basketball, and while having a really good basketball program might or might not get a school in, having a really bad one could definatly keep them out.

Yeah the Flames would probably be able to compete with Florida Atlantic but the rest of that league would probably give the Flames a world of trouble. I agree that at this point the on-field success and upgrading the profile of the 2 sports that matter (men's hoops, football) is necessary for any hope at CUSA. Still a long shot IMO.

I would probably place C-USA & MAC at about even odds for us. And while those are extremely long, they are existent. The Sun Belt remains our best shot even though it is painfully obvious that they remain unlikely.

From the above linked article:
"One of the things that turned the tide in the favor of Coastal Carolina was the fact that they have brand new softball and baseball facilities, and they have expansion plans for their stadium," Benson added.

You don't seem convinced. I chortle audibly.
It´s a valid point in their favor as compared to EKU. We were not even in the equation for ¨other reasons¨. Coastal also has a new basketball facility, and it´s a nice one, even if it only holds something over 3000. That´s all they need anyway.

We have all those things as well so I'm not sure how that suddenly shot them to the top. I agree with olldflame that other reasons are in play here

They wanted a public school.
Then why don't they just say that.
They said they didn't want a Private school. So that sort of narrows it down
