That is pretty sweet. I'd be all over this if I was still renting. They did this in a bunch of huge silk manufacturing buildings in my hometown. They were very cool apartments.

Me and dad were talking about this the other day. If they could revitalize it somewhat like Winston-Salem did their downtown then Lynchburg would be a very fun place.

The revitalization of downtown has been talked about for many years. The city spent some money on a few projects hoping to kick it off. However, at that time they were operating by the plans of former city planner (and everyone's favorite gal!), Rachel Flynn. I haven't heard much about plans for downtown since she left, but no plans are definitely better than what she was working on.

All the same, there have been many successful ventures of this type that would suit Lynchburg. I'd love to see it happen. There's a lot of room for retail, dining and similar loft style apartments down there. College kids would eat it up if they could keep it reasonable. Main street could really be a great place. It's just going to take someone with a lot of money, the right vision and a nice enough smile to get city council to cooperate.

SJ, the design actaully came from a group in winston. this downtown project has been going on for quite some time, it will really take some white collar jobs into the hill city to really get this project going.

This is not a homer statement, but they should model it after Winston. Winston did their renovations with college students and 20-somethings in mind and what they would want. They knew that was the market that they wanted to attract into Winston. We've already got the market, not just make the place more suitable. I'd love to spend a night downtown walking around and everything if there was actually little places to stop off at. Put a bar or two down there, a deli maybe, some ice cream or coffee shops, and there ya go.

This is awesome; I just wish I made enough to afford one of those places. The prices are ridiculously cheap when compared to every other city, but I'm living on a typical Lynchburg paycheck.
