We would win that game easily since at least half their team isn't allowed to leave the State or they'd commit parole violations! :pbjtime

1. I think we can and will get the FCS top 25 teams to come to town in the future as we continue to win games and go deep into the playoffs
2. I would hope fans would come from those teams and feel free to tailgate and enjoy themselves.
3. In the spirit of Pope Francis' visit to the US this week I would hope that our alumni and fans will have moved beyond our past pharasitical tendencies and welcomed these fans with open arms even if they had a beer in one hand. Each Saturday is a chance to show a whole new crop of opposing fans a Christlike attitude. Nothing say welcome like "Hey Brother, clean yourself up and then come check us out!" There can and should be a middle way for a day for those who visit campus without signing the Liberty Way.

Go Flames! Excited and proud of how far we have come!

For the record, some of the feedback from Montana fans is that they were a bit disappointed by the lack of welcome from our tailgaters this past weekend. At most schools, when visiting fans are in town they are welcomed by the locals to hang at their tailgates. I explained to them that when your normal visitors are the Presbys & Gardner-Webb's of the world, we aren't accustomed to visiting fans.

You guys arguing about alcohol consumption and scheduling clearly have never worked in athletics or know how scheduling works. Schools don't schedule opponents based off their stadium policies or what their fans experience will be when they get there. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

There would be plenty of their fans here, but who cares? Do you know how many Liberty fans there would be at Williams Stadium for a game against UVA or UNC?

Not many because it would be a sign the world is coming to an end and the Rapture had already occurred :D

There would be some G5 of course, but there would also be P5 teams as well. We won't be stuck. All of the recent move-ups have done fine with scheduling quality games home and away. So would we.

When we move up, UNC-Charlotte would be an excellent team to schedule. So would Kent State. New Mexico/NMSU would not. All would be clearly better than any conference game except for Coastal.

I haven't read all the replies so possibly down the page you explained this further but your not really serious are you?? I wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms last year at JMU. As a matter of fact some drunk JMU punk wanted to fight this 50 yr old LU alum. I'll go to the UGA/UF game and test this theory. I met some Montana fans at their team hotel and they seem ok prior to the game. Not so much after.

Last year at JMU there was two female Liberty students standing a few feet to our right. We were right on the edge of the Liberty section and student section. Some clearly intoxicated JMU students actually came down and started shaking one of the girls by the shoulder yelling "did you see that!" After JMUs first touchdown. We shooed them off for the moment.

The girls had written LU under there cheeks and had the paint sitting on the bleachers behind us. All of a sudden we heard a loud Pop and were hit with the paint. The guys had jumped down and stamped the paint spraying about 15 of us all around. They ran off and a former LU football player was held back. I texted the fan abuse hotline and we were surrounded by a ton of cops. They couldn't track them down; but in the fourth quarter I saw them leaving and a girl went and got a cop and they were all arrested.

Point of my story? There really isn't one, but any amount of unwelcoming here is due more to inexperience and lack of game day knowledge. I think that's preferable to nasty drunk behavior

I'll agree with all of that. And UNC-Charlotte, Troy, ODU...etc would be great! But someone referenced Duke hosting Alabama and mentioned that we could do the same. All I'm pointing out is that there were reasons behind Duke hosting Alabama, it's not really the norm. If an elite program visits a smaller program, it's typically due to some connection or advantage. You try telling Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, USC..etc faithful that they won't be able to drink at one of their away games and it won't go over well.

I'm not saying that we won't be able to schedule anyone in Lynchburg, but we aren't getting an elite program into Williams Stadium.

That's true to an extent. However, I wouldn't mind playing a team like Miami, Baylor, Kansas State, Pitt, NC State, Utah, West Virginia, BYU, Boise State, etc. at Williams Stadium every 2 or 3 years. All of whom are scheduled to travel to G5 teams either this season or in the future. Most are not elite programs like Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, or Alabama. But I'd take them. :)

We were tailgating 3 hours before the game, and I spoke to every Montana fan that I saw and welcomed them. I even spoke to a few after the game who were shocked that they lost to us. I asked one old guy if our fans were nice to him and he said, "Yes, but the team was not." I didn't realize until afterwards that he was probably referring to their QB breaking his leg.

Not a single one of those teams would ever play here.

The ONLY reason we could even ever play those teams AWAY is because they pay us to come and lose to them. They want an extra home game.
