I thought the video board operator did MUCH better...they stopped putting up messages to cheer when we had the ball and were on offense. This was a good correction and a big improvement over last week.

And I love the LU chant during punts that the video board does.

I didn't like that the Runk and Pratt trivia contest was again Gill's picture...wouldn't it be better to use a different person each week?

On a personal note, I upset some people near me. I sit in the reserved seats on the Baptist Side. I brought thunders sticks, a LU alumni cowbell, and a vuzusala. I normally only bring thunder sticks. I only used the vuzusala twice...I could tell it was really annoying people, so I stopped using it and switched to the cowbell...but people still seemed irritated. So I switched to the thunder sticks. I only cheer at the beginning and when we're on defense.

People around me complained that I was too loud...someone also threw a paper airplane at me. Anyway, I upset the people in front of me, one of them said they wouldn't come back...I don't want to keep people away so I apologized and I promised them that I wouldn't bring my thundersticks the rest of the year...I don't want to keep people away. I did tell them that I would bring a small tamborine in the future...it's not as loud as the thundersticks...and I told them I'd try and keep it to 3rd and 4th downs and/or important plays. They seemed to be happy with that so they'll be back.

It may also be that I'm blocking people's vision when I stand up...so I'll try not to stand up as much...but I'll still stand up every third and fourth down when we're on defense.

The thing is I can't yell because I have to preach on Sunday and I'll loose my voice...that's why I bring the thunder sticks. But people around me don't like them. So my plan is to still cheer...I can use the small tambourine without being as obnoxious.

I'm trying to strike a balance between cheering without annoying the people around me so much that they don't come back. I get excited so it's easy for me to cheer obnoxiously loud.
First of all....vuvuzela ? AWESOME
Second, this goes back to the discussion about the type of fans we have. It's POST #1 that we need more 'real' fans. You should not apologize at all. If they don't like it stay home and watch it on TV. It's FOOTBALL not Sunday Worship. Fans like that don't get it, never will, and have plagued LU athletics forever.

Uh...yeah. I love that we are playing more FBS teams each year, too.

I think the D is by far the most improved this year and the reason we are 2-1. Love Chima and the secondary is really pretty good. I like seeing lower scoring games out of the boys. I get tired of offence-focused teams/games where 100+ points are scored. D wins championships, but then I'm and old school Big 10 guy.

Hey, 01LUGrad...you need to add the other Liberty national champion to your sig: http://www.liberty.edu/Flames/index.cfm ... %20Zealand

Boom. We had other more talented QB's who did not have what Josh has.
Those things are great and we definitely need them.

But now we need the stat sheet stuff.

What's wrong with his stat sheet?

Is it just me or is Josh running the ball a lot less compared to last year? (I'm too lazy to look up the stats) Thought there were several missed opportunities this year where he could have picked up 10-15 yards running it.

Fair enough. But what he provides makes up for some of that. If he DIDNT possess those other skills the on field numbers would be worse

I believe their quickness also accounted for our lack of a running attack. It was obvious that they wanted to stop the run first and make us pass the ball.

Another thing that I noticed was the OL was opening pretty good holes, but they were closing soooo fast that the runners had a hard time getting to them at the correct time. These guys were fast on defense and blitzed more than the first two games we played.
More play action might .. have slowed them down "some" :?: They were lightning quick. Quicker than WVA.

I sit on the 50 yard line in the reserved section and there were at least 6 people, mostly old folks, with cow bells and people were screaming their lungs out, including my wife. Noise gives the home team advantage for sure.

They have 8 seniors starting on D and are for sure quick. Play action works better when you establish the run. MU had their starting tackles get hurt in game against NDSU and missed the Cal Poly game entirely. They returned against us with a vengeance.

I was screaming all game for some under the center power formations running downhill. Then let that set up the play action.

That crowd was amazing, my voice is still a little shot after screaming so loud all game long. That was the most involved I've ever seen the student section, they weren't just there to be weird and try to get on TV. They were actually there to cheer on their team AND have fun at the same time it was awesome to be a part of.

More recruits there than I have seen previously at a game if my memory is correct. Many of the recruits were in-state recruits. Lot from Roanoke area and SWVA. Couple good looking players from Martinsville area.

As for the game, I am still trying to figure out our offensive game plan.

Punt team needs some work. Montana had 2 blocked punts.

Josh didnt turn the ball over, he wasnt given any points by the defense or special teams, and we scored 31 points. His long ball is the best we have seen in 15 years, easily.

"50% and taking bad sacks".... Thats nothing to complain about. If it were interceptions, or we werent scoring maybe....... I think he is taking bad sacks and maybe at 50% because of smart decisions NOT to throw a ball that any number of the Brocks or Mike Brown may have tried to fit in.

It was a great day to be a flame. Give the winning QB a break.

It was a great day, but I don't want to settle for one great day in September. We won, but we didn't play well on offense for at least half the game and special teams were bad overall. I'm ecstatic for the win but we've got some stuff to clean up.

Atmosphere was great as usual. Music was pretty good for the most part, except a ton of the songs had these real long build-ups that were actually too long, so they had to cut them short before you got to the payoff.

Students: stop walking to your seats and face the flag during the national anthem. I thought this was common knowledge.

Male cheerleaders: don't hold up the chicks or your blowhorns during plays, people behind you can't see the field. We're there to watch the game, not you.

Marching band: Do we have to go through this every year?

Have they ever tried using concession people in the stands to cut down on the lines? The ridiculous lines at concessions seem like a problem to me.

Again with the music, how crusty am I gonna sound ?

We played a song at the end of the game that used God's name in Vain several times. Its not a problem that Purple wants to go on a Mystery tour, and its not even a problem that JFJR wants to listen to the Rolling Stones to celebrate the win (see his instagram), but if we are choosing music to play in the stadium, Id prefer music that isnt just blatantly using God's name in vain.

What goes in my headphones, and what goes on your radio is your choice, but as an institution, LU can do better.

The cheerleaders have done that for forever. It's part of their routine. If it's an issue, that's more for the coach than the cheerleaders.

And having concessions in the stands would only make sense for about 1, maybe 2 games a year. We've never had this many people at a game before. While it was very well attended, you aren't going to see everyone come back for Kennesaw State.

I thought the atmosphere was incredible. For those who didn't pick up on any previously mentioned hints, I had the opportunity to return as Sparky for the first half.

My favorite part about Saturday however, wasn't the game, it was Gill's press conference. He acknowledged how good Montana is and how big of a win this was, and in the same breath he mentioned how we didn't play our best. It would be easy to sit back and just ride the win but he knows that this team can be even better. That was encouraging to hear.

The only part about Saturday that I didn't like, was the brief moment where a selection of our student fans shouted, "Overrated." I've never understood the desire by fans to claim anyone who loses to their team is "overrated." It's like a complete slap in the face at what your program has just accomplished. Otherwise, I thought the entire game was absolutely fantastic. We can't let off the gas though, things could change quickly in these next four games.

from the looks of it, we started to get a bit complacent and just try to eat some clock, which tbh was going to need to be done in order to keep them off the field with the amount of plays that they like to try and run. It just so happens that we jumped on them early and may have knocked them out their game plan a little bit then to top that off they was getting physically beat up and losing players. They found a way with the block punts to hang around and keep things at least interesting, due to the fact that people have the old Liberty mindset that somehow the wheels will fall off and find a way to lose.

some decent points, but if you don't have that many people there then I guess its not a normal problem that they have now is it.

Several thoughts here since I missed the DSU game...

1. Great win for the team, program and using last year as a springboard to continue these kinds of wins.

2. I think we are 3-0 vs. top 10 teams in the last 4 years? (someone double check that - I was pretty sure Villanova wasn't in the top 10, but I don't remember) Stony Brook #5, Coastal #1/2, Montana #7.

3. Stadium, crowd and atmosphere were all unbelievable. Students were the best I have ever seen. Music was PERFECT to keep them engaged and the "Jump" on the screen helped a lot IMO. Which helps me with my next point. Music, jumbotron operator and overall production of the game day experience has to be the best I have ever seen it. Last year was great, but this year was like a whole new gameday experience. Thank you JB and co. Only criticism I have (which isn't really one), don't play awesome music that gets the students hype right before we snap the ball on offense. There were 2-3 times where Woodrum/Rice were motioning to be quiet to the students. Also, speakers aren't too loud for a college football game.

4. Defensive unit as a whole is a monster. Chima and d-line are freaks. The whole defense is extremely fast and rallies to the ball quickly.

5. Offense was good. Montana was clearly focused on stopping the run game, so we saw opportunities and took advantage - Woodrum 3rd down conversion to Parker on 1st drive was clutch.

6. Woodrum - He is a very smart football player and very skilled as well. He played decently to his capabilities. He definitely didn't have his best game, and yet he still didn't throw an INT. Perspective for Woodrum critics - 0 INTs vs. WVU & Montana. He got visibly upset on the naked bootleg and was expressing his frustration to Coach Dailey. One thing I did notice a lot was Woodrum got more and more frustrated as the offense struggled after the 1st qtr. I would like to seem him more composed when the offense struggles, but that is his competitiveness coming out.

7. Punting - Second blocked punt was unacceptable. Will Smith (I believe) was not on the line (RT position) and this was after a Montana TO. How this happens, I have no clue. It looked like Dexter Robbins (correct me if I'm wrong) ran in at the last second, and Montana blew up the play. I just hope Turner's leg is okay.

8. Overall - Could not have been more impressed with the game experience. I would be surprised if there is another college football venue that is able to put together an atmosphere quite like what I was a part of on Saturday. Lastly, we are a top 10 team right now. Last years playoff run and this win solidifies this to be the case. We should absolutely be ranked ahead of Coastal, even though I know we won't.

Looking forward to watching the next 4 weeks!

Maybe the chant of overrated happens whenever the perceived underdog beats the team that's ranked a lot higher. Given the fact that Liberty usually doesn't have many ranked teams coming into Williams stadium, I could understand why you wouldn't hear it. I can promise you this if it was Coastal and they are coming here and lose your going to hear that chant again, so best to prepare yourself for it now.
