Great win! Great atmosphere! Ended up having to sit on the lawn at the game, but so worth it to see us play a solid game. I do hope they'll clean up the play of the punt team...and even sure up the o-line a little bit more. I would have liked to see some more rushing yards but hey...a wins a win!! Hope the momentum continues!!

They can't discount it really, he took snaps we knocked him out

Don't know how to feel and what to think after this win. It was such a great feeling. I really feel like the crowd atmosphere messed with their qb/center exchange. I was in the student section and things were nuts. I noticed Montana assistants just in awe of what was happening behind them. What was the impressions from the baptist side?

(Thankyou Flamesnation for the free t-shirt, coke, and cheeseburger at the tailgate)!

  1. -Epic win tonight!

-Crowd was insane...students can't get enough credit for staying...I hope they know how important that was

-Punt game (both sides) need to figure some things out it or it could get costly in a key time. (Funny comment Purple about the ball being too heavy. I said the same thing!)

-Did I mention it was an epic win? I mentioned to someone at the game I wasnt sure what we're supposed to do after a big win like that. Take home a goal post?

-Is that signature SJ getting crazy with Dr Pepper?

-Lastly - I'd love to go FBS like everyone else but this shows how fun being a top tier FCS program can be. When the right opportunity comes...awesome. Until then, let's enjoy being a game on the schedule other strong FCS programs need for out of conference strength of schedule purposes

First time not sitting....scratch that, standing in student. Getting too old for that. I took some video's of the students across the way going nuts. It was great. Baptist side was way more tame but still really got into the game. Best game ever!

Edit***Purple, I thought the same thing but then realized that we weren't losing an extra 20-30 yards a punt by at least fielding the ball instead of letting it hit the ground and rolling out.

Good win. Maybe bet non-conf win ever? Obviously best win ever was at Coastal last year.

Neither team looked championship caliber. Jacksonville State is for real this year...

Great step in right direction for atmosphere. Still too many times it got quiet when Montana O was on the field.

Right when I'm thinking that Abnar has underperformed this season, he rips off a big TD run. And as bad as the OLine was at times, it was blocking that created that opportunity.

Woodrum is so boom or bust He scares me going forward.

Liberty's DLine is nasty! The entire D is starting to look really good, but it starts up front. Well done.

Won't be this easy on the road. Have to guard against letdown.

Completely agree. I just fear the back peddling could cause the feet to get tied up and disaster strikes. So far so good though and as LUDad said it saves us yards in the end.

What a great win. Student section was electric and impacted the game. This was the best crowd I've ever seen at Williams Stadium. We need to be louder when the opponent is on defense. This team could have a special season. Tonight was built on the successful end of last season's games against Coastal, JMU and Villanova.

O-Line needs to continue to improve and stay healthy. When Woodrum has time, he is elite. There are too many times that he gets early pressure that is difficult to avoid.

Defense played great.

2nd Montana QB was an upgrade over the starter.

Footwork on punt returns look shaky, but results are an improvement over last season.

Game day operations team are first rate. From that perspective, we are definitely one of the elite programs in the country. Kudos to Mickey and JB.

Punt team looks undersized and will have difficulty with any top teams applying pressure without some major adjustments. Were both punt blocks after time outs? On the second punt block, an offensive lineman was late on the field after a time out. How does that happen?

We have a lot of weapons in the receiver corps.

I enjoyed a fun day at the stadium today. Definitely glad I made the trip. Great to see so many people that frequent this board even though the visits were short.

Southern Illinois is a winnable game. I hope we take it to them. Anyone making the trip?

D.J. Abnar’s touchdown run early in the fourth quarterback did more than give Liberty a double-digit lead against visiting Montana in front of a boisterous crowd at Williams Stadium.

No. 15/14 Liberty jumped out to a quick two-score lead and then fended off several pushes by No. 8/7 Montana, claiming a 31-21 victory on Saturday to cap off Hall of Fame and Family Weekend on Liberty Mountain.

The game was played in front of a Williams Stadium record crowd of 22,551 fans, surpassing last year's Homecoming crowd of 20,838 fans on Oct. 4, 2014. The contest also marked the first-ever Top 15 matchup in stadium history.

Anyone know what Woodrum got upset about late, he and a coach really got into it on the sideline. I'm guessing he wasn't happy about the play calling. I've never seem him that bent out of shape.

Was it after the failed naked bootleg? I'd be upset too if it allowed Mr Holmes another shot at me!

What a odd feeling being on the winning side of a game like this. We had plenty of old school liberty moments but Montana did too and many of them were forced by our defense. I believe the pressure our d line was getting consistently got in the head of their center causing bad snap after bad snap.

We didn't play perfect. Far from it but we did what we needed to do to win which is awesome. I think we Will probably be ranked 10th or 11th after this win. I know many will be upset by that but it is right where we should be. If we win on the road next week I will begin thinking this season may be special. Road games scare me though.

Great crowd which made me jealous I couldn't be there.

Woodrum sometimes hangs on to the ball too long. He created a couple of those sacks. This team has the potential to go deep if we can more consistency from our 5th year senior qb. He makes some great throws but we need more consistency there. We can tighten up the punt team. The young secondary will continue to get better. I said it last year and was mocked a bit but the talent gill has brought in is just different athletically. Juwan wells and tolen avery are a perfect example. Those guys look like there shot out of a canon when they get free. Montanas backup qb was better than the 1st teamer. That kid stuck in there and threw some deep strikes. Great win. Hard not to see the excitment and growth around the program. Also thought we had a little better music selection and it wasnt quite as loud. Good job adjusting there as wel though its still a little too hipster music for me ha.

I def would not say that DJ has been a bust, but what I would def say is that his opportunities have dropped vastly, and they are both trying to make the best out of a bad situation. DJ proved he should start, most coaching staffs believe you don't lose your spot by injury. They have both carried the load when they had the opportunities, just I think DJ gives a little more POP to the running game.

possibly the fact that is was 4th and 1 they didn't go for it and then they get punt blocked possibly putting game in jeopardy. But you know that in coach speak he was ok, just being a competitor and that's what makes him who he is.

I love our Dline, they look like some beasts out there, our version of Clowney is starting to come out his shell, and Wells looks like a great compliment to big nasty Jaron Greene in the middle.
You talk about Woodrum holding on to the ball did you realize that they went from a 4-3 to a dime defense man under 2 over which made it a lot harder to get open over top

I think so. He took some good shots last night. Probably just a mix of competitiveness and frustration coming together. Montana's defence closes fast. Just when you think you have some space they're in your face. I thought they closed quicker than WVU.

I have followed Liberty football since 1979 and can remember many football games where I have been proud of our team and how well we played. Not all those games were wins, but watching the team grow and learn made me feel good about our program. Now a new dynamic has arisen where its clear we as spectators and supporters expect the team to win. What's odd about that is I believe for the first time the football players believe the same and play with that mentality.
Overall a great win for liberty!

Congratulations to the coaches and players for a milestone program win. Electric atmosphere, placed was packed and I could not find a seat all night. Just fix that punting!
