All right, I give in and fess up.
'76 Pontiac Sunbird: Everytime I hit the gas the engine would turn sideways and both the driver & passenger side doors were rusted out at the bottom. Mine was white with maroon vinyl on the roof.
'80 Toyota Corolla Hatchback: It was actually pretty sweet even though it looked ugly fromt he exterior. It had a 5-speed engine that had me zipping around traffic like it was Formula One race. Unfortunately I totalled it on Fort Avenue when a German Shepherd ran across my path and I hit it dead on which made my car swerve into one of those big trees that line the avenue before the cutoff tot he old TRBC. And no, I just had liability insurance.
'79 Mercury Bobcat: Mine was dark brown and a 4-speed. When the previous incident happened, my Uncle Ron gave me a car that he was offered $200 for on a trade-in. It probably wasn't worth that. For those that don't remember the Bobcat, it was the "upscale" sister car tot he legendary Ford PInto. Enough said. I drove that car for two years pushing it up opver 180k before it finally died. I had it parked on that hill behind County Green Apts om blocks when I sold it for $15. The guy who bought it from me somehow got it running again and put on $300 mag wheels and I saw it driving all over Lynchburg and smiled every time.
'80 Plymouth Horizon TC3: Biggest piece of junk in the survey by a long shot. Mine was dark blue and rarely ran. It didn't look bad but it was the ultimate lemon. I had repressed this car from my memory banks for nearly two decades untilt his thread. It was parked alongside some old farm equipment for a long time on my grandparents' farm in Ohio until someone mercifully towed it away.
'85 Ford Mustang: The first car I ever owned that I truly loved. It was two-tone silver/gray. It was a blast to drive even though it killed me on insurance payments. But constant drives between Lynchburg, Cincinnati & Corpus Christi rolled up way too many too quickly.
'90 Ford Probe: This car was supposed to replace the Mustang in Ford's lineup but it never met the expectations. Mine was silver and it gave me several years ofl loyal if unspectacular service.
'94 Ford Mustang: When Ford introduced the new Mustang line in January of 1994 I bought one of the first off the assembly line. This is my all-time favorite ride hands down. It was a blast to drive and for the first six months I had people enviously pointing at me as a drove by. But all good things had to come to an end and when Mrs. Sly became Mrs. Sly I entered the land of SUVs. Mine was white if you were wondering.
'98 Ford Explorer Sport: I was driving one of these at work and decided it would make a decent family vehicle. A couple of years later its nasty track record resulted in a free set of tires for me and the impossibility I could ever sell it for what it was truly worth. I've had it for nearly a decade and I still drive it to work everyday (and will continue to do so until its ultimate demise). All said and done, its been a very reliable yet unspectacular means of transportation.
'94 Acura Integra: A close second on this list. I married into this one. It got great gas mileage and was a fun 5-speed to drive around Austin and later Houston. It was easy to sell despite 160k thanks to the timing of the Fast & Furious series.
'02 Chevy Tahoe: Its the family car my wife primarily drives with the kids in tow. By far the most expnsive car I've ever driven and it is extremnely comfortable on roadies (some of you saw it when we rolled thru the 'Burg this past spring). We'll hav this one until it won't run anymore. Mine is maroon but I love that picture with the Tetons in the background.
