IIRC, we didn't have a lot of film on these guys. New coaching staff. New players. We went in very slim on what we knew so the game plan had to be generic. It's one game. We won I wouldn't get to worked up. My concerns are OL and our continued habit of dropping passes

Student section was insane. It was a joy to be in that group, the intensity was impressive, and it makes coaching difficult too. The flamethrowers need to focus on the baptist side, and someone needs to get the memo across to the cheerleaders, flamethrowes, and production people that we DON'T cheer on offense.

Yet some were making the case that we had such a smart fan base

However, the intensity and enthusiasm are outstanding compared year over year

Seriously...they only did the "go, flames, go chant" when we were on offense...and right after that the scoreboard says, "MAKE SOME NOISE". I hate that!

The flamethrowers were on the lower level of the baptist side...again encouraging people to cheer when we were on OFFENSE.

I hope they don't do this at the next home game.

It's not really the fanbase that's dumb, it's the production team, cheerleaders and flamethrowers who are unaware. I don't know if you can see on ESPN3 but frequently the fans on the front row get up on the metal guard rails and begin to do an Angels in the outfield style wave to silence the students when we have the ball.

I like you. My guess is you're a student who stands near the front row, gets there early, and truly cares for the team.

With that said, the fact that so many people follow the video board shows they don't know any better.

Someone using the #GoFlames thing on Twitter was asking why the cheerleaders were asking them to cheer and get loud when the other team had the ball and was scoring. I really wanted to respond to that one, but I didn't.

Of course, same person posted that they were only there for the fireworks, so there we go.

Seemed like a boring game to me, sitting here at home. We looked decent, but not great. The offense can be explosive, the defense can make some great plays, we just need to tighten up before Saturday. We don't have the luxury of a couple lay-down games this season - Delaware State was our one tune-up for the season. Pre-season is now over. If we don't improve much, I can see a 78-4 season where we miss the post-season entirely. If we get to work and improve, I can see us at 9-2 and having a shot at a decent run in the playoffs.

I watched our first three series just now. The Blocking problems I saw was when we had two backs in. The lead fullback missed their blocks, not the OL. The only real problems I saw was when we tried to run the outside zone, left side did struggle a bit with reach blocks.

Having been at the game I will say whoever was running the video board was a bit clueless.

That being said, most of the fans I was around weren't mindlessly following the video board.

As the guy who used to do that, that makes me sad.

I thought the offense looked "lost" most of the game, especially the passing game.

The video board is a joke in the way it's being operated. Might as well turn it off and sell it for billboard space to some Corporation or Company.
The replays were terrible all night, the few times they did show them.

(I will not discuss the Officials)

I thought we had a home opener every year, but I guess not ....
I wish he had been more clear about that, but technically he was not incorrect. This was the first time we opened the season in Lynchburg since 2010, but that year the game was played at Lynchburg City Stadium. 2008 was the last time our first game was in Williams Stadium...but that's me being nitpicky

Technically, we have a home opener every year. Last year our home opener was against Brevard. In 2013 it was against Monmouth. Those were our home openers - we have them every year. It's just not always the first game of the season. To be TECHNICALLY correct, it should have been "This is the first time since 2008 that Liberty has opened the season at home." THAT would have been correct.

I was on my way to the restroom with my daughter during the 3rd down play when the scoreboard started asking people to make some noise. It ticked me off. It's one thing for a crowd with dumb fans to do this, but to have a FT Gameday employee make such a stupid error on more than one occasion shows a lack of awareness and understanding about the game.
