Dude. I've said that for a while. I love the Jokers and some of the other guys who are actual fans. But half our kids are there to be seen. It's a social event. It's why they leave at halftime.

Also: from a production element, we show fans in the stands more than any other stadium I've been to.

At least its cool to be there and be seen

I am sure most FCS program would love to have the problem we have. I get annoyed at times with the students too but it had been well documented that student support of college football is down across the board.

Thanks for being so helpful. I am hoping you might have to wait another 20 years though.
I will have my people call your people.
its why I'm the technical advisor here

If throwing a kid on a jumbotron gets them in the seat, so be it. It's the job of the team on the field to turn those kids into fans and, the direction we are heading will hopefully result in more fans over the years. However the status quo isn't that bad. I'd rather have a full stadium of kids wearing horse masks than half a stadium full of people who aren't.

I'm a football fan but my wife isn't and my kids are young but learning. While I can watch the field and enjoy the game, I recognize that my own family picks up on different elements of the atmosphere that enriches the experience for them.

I'd be selfish to say that they should stick to only what entertains me and not play to a broader crowd.

That's being said, I hope the band's show this year won't put me to sleep during the half.

Showing students isn't bad. Showing them instead of replays and player reactions is. It's just a slight twist on hierarchy. Running the video board is hard work. There are a ton of things to balance. I'd do different if I oversaw that now than when I did but I didn't know any better at the time.

Also, if these are the problems we are discussing, I'd say we are in pretty good shape.

At the BSC media day, CCU´s QB Alex Ross was asked what was the toughest place he had played. He didn´t hesitate for a second. He went on to talk about how much he loved the challenge of playing in the atmosphere at the Bill, which is what you would expect from a competitor like him. Yeah, there are 6 other teams in the BSC, about a hundred more in FCS and a lot in FBS too who would love to have our ¨problems¨when it comes to game atmosphere, and that INCLUDES Coastal.

What's next, saying stop playing "Don't Stop Believing" at the beginning of the 3rd quarter? Because as cliche and stupid as it may be that's one of my favorite LU football "traditions".
The only reason this "tradition" exists is because of Glee. How is singing about a one night stand a good "tradition" to have? Truth be told, I'm just glad we finally got the marching band to stop playing when the Flames were on offense, creating issues with hearing the quarterback.

He has to move to Texas, think its better than all the rest and further more, think Houston represents ALL Texas except Dallas before he is the next SLY FOX.

BTW...Houston may like to think they're better than Dallas, but no one in Dallas even thinks about Houston, at all...except me, to get under Sly's skin that maybe his location isn't as important as he thinks it is.

Tim East, our new Associate AD will be handling that now. SJ could better answer who has been doing it, although I know Kevin Keys as been involved.

That is saying a lot figuring they played at the Fargo Dome last fall in a playoff atmosphere

No. Bad idea. Not feasible.

East, who had been doing it at VT for years, became available when their new AD deccided to clean house, and JB wasted no time grabbing him. There´s a thread in te General Sports forum.

If truth were to be known, I think the order to show mostly students on video board came from "outside" the athletic department. I cannot say who I think it is on this board, but if one were to put 2+2 together I think they can determine it.

Within the Athletic dept. what's the difference between "External Operations" and Internal Operations" ?
