Pokey Joe's has a burger event they run two months a year with a whole host of smoked hamburgers that are an awesome value. You also have the Cavalier... Both are 'hole-in-the-wall' type places, but are really good.
Tried the Cavalier recently because of all the recommendations on here. I was really disappointed. The Cavalier burger was OK, but honestly no where near what I was expecting. I've had better at several places around town, including some chains.
I' curious as to which chains you've had better burgers at. Pokey Joe's is still my favorite more than likely... I go there far more than I do the Cavalier.

To be honest, just about any of them - Ruby Tuesday and Five Guys, of the top of my head. The cavalier burger was rather bland and almost dry. Maybe they had a bad day, I don't know.

Perhaps... honestly, it has been about a year and a half since I was there. Ruby Tuesday and Five Guys always come across as dirty to me. Five Guys is terribly expensive too. I wish we had a Chili's... I've heard there's one going in across from the airport, but of all chain restaurants, they are my favorite.

My wife and I made regular trips to Cavalier in the last couple months before Michael was born. In fact, her first meal after leaving the hospital, was a cavalier burger. I would get mine with bacon, swiss and mushrooms, which is about the only way I ever will eat a cheeseburger.

I love Five Guys but the fact that it's even up for consideration as best burger in Lynchburg proves that Lynchburg doesn't have great options. Five Guys wouldn't be top 10 in Roanoke, Harrisonburg or Blacksburg.

I will say that Whiteheart has an amazing burger. I would easily rank that as best burger in Lynchburg.

I'm not sure if it's a reflection of Lynchburg as much as it is a reflection of the voters. Five Guys is good but, as a "burger expert" I'd say there are some good local options. Some folks just need to realize that life exists outside of Wards Rd.

Agree 100%.

Anyone here in Lynchburg tried the Greatroom yet inside of the Kirkley? If you haven't you're missing out big time. You can get a solid three course meal there for $16... any appetizer, entree and dessert (creme brulee is amazing). I know it's a weird location, but they have dumped some money into that place to make it nice and we've had excellent service the times we've gone. I highly recommend it.

Thanks to the power of Flame Fans, I scheduled our Quiz Bowl awards banquet at the The Great Room. The team, staffers, and coaches absolutely loved it! The crab cakes are amazing, and the team raved about the desserts. My only complaint is they only had one kind of steak--a NY strip. Still, I would recommend the place as well: they do breakfast and dinner but not lunch.

That's awesome... and yeah they do only have one steak, but it is really good. It's got a great marinade and it's tender.

Creme Brûlée? Sounds to fancy for me. However, I'm a huge NY Strip fan
I still say it's worth the drive to Bristol for the Billy Burger at The Burger Bar!

Go the WV route like I did and get the root beer float for dessert, but bring your own straw. The paper straws are pretty but don't work for ice cream.

And for an appetizer, get the shrimp cocktail--the shrimp are HUGE!

Found Chico's Bakery-made pepperoni rolls at a convenience store in Thurmont, MD yesterday. Bought a whole case (20 ct.). Wife just doesn't understand.

Which is fine for me! I've got lunch and dinner for the next ten days!

I used to eat at Whataburgerr when I lived in Pensacola, and enjoyed it. But I'm not going to turn down a school because there's not a Whataburger in the area.

Sly, I've been curious, and have never stopped to find out -- how does Sumburger up in Chilicothe compare with Whataburger? Just on the surface, they seem similar to me - maybe it's the name.

whataburger was meh the few times i've eaten there. same feelings for sonic.

ph you'll love steak and shake. i am a thin crusty stacked high patty man. i dont' like the big patties unless its like a 70/30 ground chuck/sirloin type burger i can get medium rare.

her locally we have culvers which serves a butter burger which is awesome.

They have a few Culvers down here and their in the process of building others due to the popularity. Tried it once since my buddy told me that they have cheese curds, but wasn't that impressed since the "cheese curds" were pretty much fried cheese sticks; prices are not bad though for the amount of food they give you. The only place that has legit squeaky cheese curds down here is a vegetable stand near the skyway. The owner has them shipped from Wisconsin on a regular basis.

As stated in the beginning of the post, I am not a big fan of Whataburger (dubbed Wait-a-burger by my wife) burgers. I have lived here for a quarter century and never bought into the hype. They do make good chicken sandwiches and breakfast options.

Culvers is also meh to me. I would take Steak N Shake over Culvers every day of the week and I have both by my house.

As for Sumburger, I have never had it. I haven't had much reason to visit Chilly-town since most of my relatives there died off years ago.

Had a new burger today in Forest at Trio: Brick Oven Eatery. It was quite good. I still think Brauburger a block down the street is slightly better but I only tried one of their burgers today. I encourage everyone to try them. Pizzas looked good as well.

Here's an article in the local paper about the new Forest restaurant that Yacht was referencing:
Trio Brick Oven Eatery serving up pizza, wings, burgers in Forest
...The restaurant has garnered attention because of its fresh brick-oven pizzas, but it’s more than just your standard pizzeria. It has a “trio” of major food groups: brick-oven pizza, gourmet burgers and wings. Along with salads and snacks, including five types of hand-cut fries and jumbo hand-breaded chicken tenders, the menu offers items for a variety of tastes...
