So things are in the works, details are being hammered out. Got it. Thanks

That sounds about right ATrain...thanks for the comment scribe. In this "microwave news" culture thanks to social media and what not, its tough to wait for details on a situation regardless of the context

W00t!

I was telling someone on Wednesday that if he came on, it would be as "associate head coach." Looks like I was right. Lol

Time to take the next step. Great hire.

You were right? You've been mocking the people that said this was happening for a week...

I wasn't mocking anyone. I never doubted that this was in the works. "crickets" was just a comment on the silence. I did doubt if it was a "done deal" and was curious/worried about the outcome. Weren't we supposed to have a press release on monday?

Steven M. Sipple: Brown's bond with Abdullah transcends religion

Ron Brown could spend hours telling stories about Ameer Abdullah.

Monday morning, Brown recalled that early in Abdullah's career at Nebraska, he nicknamed the running back "Mighty Mouse."

Um, coach. …

"Ameer said, 'I don't want to be considered a little mouse. I want to run like a big man,'" Brown said. "I respected that in him."

Through vignette after vignette, between his bites of a hamburger patty and eggs at Virginia's Travelers Cafe on Cornhusker Highway, Brown's love and respect for his former player was as evident as the coming of summer.

The 5-foot-9, 205-pound Abdullah indeed matured into a "big man" under Brown, the former Nebraska assistant who followed Bo Pelini to Youngstown State in January before Friday accepting a job on Turner Gill's staff at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. More on that move in a moment...

Brown’s switch from Youngstown State to Liberty for family and religious reasons; no reflection on Pelini
By Sam McKewon / World-Herald Bureau

LINCOLN — At first, Ron Brown lived out of a hotel. Later, a small apartment.
The former Nebraska assistant coach was part of Youngstown State’s staff for all of three months. But each day, he said, he wept. Each day was a kind of “wrestling match” in his heart.
“Every single day was a battle for me — my will vs. God’s will,” said Brown, a devout evangelical Christian who officially left YSU last week to join Liberty’s staff as an associate head coach under Turner Gill, a close friend and former Husker quarterback.
It wasn’t a battle because of the YSU football players or the Penguin head coach, Bo Pelini, whom Brown followed from NU after both were fired. Brown on Monday said he “loved” Pelini and praised his “public courage.” But coaching in Youngstown, even for a few months, was a sharp change from more than two decades of life in Nebraska, where Brown was an assistant under three head coaches, helped win three national titles and worked in Christian ministries...

People around here are always pessimistic about rumors that, if true, would be beneficial to the program or university in general.

Liberty gets to play offense. A lot of schools are playing defense with Christianity. Liberty gets to play offense, and that was a main reason why I felt led to go.
That is an amazing quote. I hope he sticks around for a while...

I think that might be true to a point, but none of my comments above should have been perceived as "pessimistic." I was excited and anxious to hear "real news." I think it was a GREAT hire and a GREAT fit! :football

What I found most interesting in his comments was that it sounds like LFSN and LU's media outlets were the real draw for him. He's got plans and I assume has been given permission to use Liberty's media assets to further his personal ministry.

For those who thought the "Win or Lose" after game prayer postings were over-the-top, get strapped in and hold on, Coach Brown might just brighten the "Flame" in the Liberty Flames' Christian identity.....HA, GLO-RY! :)
