Since our home schedule is very skimpy this year (THANKS FOR NOTHING JMU!), I am thinking of taking my son to the WV game. I have never been to Morgantown.

1. What is the *best* route from LYH, where *best* is defined as a) places to stop along the road and b) not a curvy mtn. road? Would going to Winchester and taking WV 127 to I-68 be better than highway 48 at Harrisonburg?

2. Any suggestions for where to stay for the night? At this point, we don't know the time of the game, so that will impact where we stay. I assume Morgantown room rates will be jacked for all home games, yes?

3. Anyone know they are going yet?

Fairmont, WV is nearby and would offer much cheaper hotel rooms and less traffic. That's where we stayed last time. Lots of ways to get there from here, but last time, I think I took 64 West and got off at the Sam Black Church exit and just went north until I hit Fairmont and eventually Morgantown, and I avoided most of the mountain roads that way.

But Purple and JK are the self professed Morgantown experts since they both used to live there. And make sure you eat a PEPPERONI ROLL while you are there--it's a northern WV delicacy.

Need to take 64 like cider Jim stated and Sam black exit. Then go from there to route 19 in Summersville. Take 19 north to I 79 north clear to Motown.

Gameday make sure your in liberty section if you don't mind loud drunk fans that will spill beer everywhere. Went to the Baylor and tcu game this previous year and fans can get rowdy. Not the normal crowd that were used to playing acc or non power five conference teams. Also make sure you talk to people and tailgate. You'll find some of the most passionate fan bases in the country. And they wil offer moonshine. Fact. Before the game also the team walk about a quarter mile through the tailgate crowd known as the mountaineer mantrip celebrating wv coal heritage and finishing by touching a huge lump of coal as they go int he stadium.

Make sure your early to watch the band entrance. They have an amazing award winning band.

That's my small summary. I'll be the one wearing blue n gold with a liberty hat :)

Best route from Lynchburg is 81N to 522N to Berkely Springs, WV. Jump on to 68 West right to Morgantown. Finding a hotel room in Morgantown will be next to impossible. Even if you get lucky, they jack prices up triple and make you stay 2 night minimum. Find a place off I68, maybe in Deep Creek Maryland or somewhere in Preston County, WV. All of these places will be easily accessible off interstate.

Went to the last game in WV and afterwards went to Pittsburgh to catch the Pirates and drove back the same day. I'm married to a great sports loving wife :D Probably do the same thing this year.Good luck finding parking.

If LU does the bus trip deal like they did for the NOVA playoff game, I'll be all over it. If not, I still have my friend's Mustang.

Coming from Botetourt but I always take 64 to Sam black church, get on 60, then I take WV routes 20 and 39 to Summerville, then 19 north to 79, and 79 to Morgantown.

WV has the worst fans in all of college football. NCAA should ban them from hosting games in Morgantown. If LU were to pull the upset, the stadium would probably be burned down.

Even this Marshall alum has to disagree with ball coach. I've only been to one game there (the last LU game), but I was treated with nothing but courtesy and respect by the WVU fans. They couldn't have been nicer to me.

I have heard a lot of "war stories" about Morgantown. Only real life experience I have had was when WV played at VT when both were in Big East. Most of the WV fans that somehow made their way to Blacksburg were terrible.

Ok. Im gonna cover two things here in my response ballcoach:

1) I am not going to attack you. If I wanted to attack you for what you said, I would call you a mouth breathing moron who makes Captain Obvious from Hotels.com look like Nostradamus, and that you should not have access to anything with a keyboard. (Again, let me reiterate, the previous statement is only for purposes of reinforcing my point and should not be construed as an attempt to attack you personally) However...that isn't what I want to do, which leads to...
2) I disagree that the NCAA should ban athletic events in Morgantown. Now, do the fans have serious issues with how to act? I have no doubt. But, they have as much right to host games in Morgantown as they do in Huntington, Charleston or anywhere else in West Virginia where there is an NCAA or NAIA athletics program. If they want to make themselves look bad in front of a national audience, that is on them.

Maybe, I was stretching it a little, but I have heard some bad stuff out of Morgantown. A fan should be able to attend a game without fearing for his safety.

Might not be bad for an LU game since there is not a rivalry or any bad blood. I have many Hokie friends that were battered with pennies and batteries walking to the stadium and had to hear crap the entire game. they started not wearing any of their gear until they got in the stadium or wore a jacket over it walking in. And eventually decided to quit going to the games there. I have heard complaints that some of the Tech fans can be idiots at home games as well. There are jerks everywhere, JMU is loaded with them. Talked to several people at that game that said they were harassed walking in to the game. We had one idiot try to say something to our crew as we went in but he was so tore up you couldn't understand what he was saying. One couple got ticked cause I wouldn't give them a couple tickets I was giving away at the stadium. Told them I would rip em up before I gave them to a non LU fan. Hope the fans are nice to everybody at WVU, but like posted above if we upset them better leave in a group. hahaha While i'm ranting, MD isn't a game to be at if your not a Terrapin fan.

We were yelled at at JMU and taunted, but a friend of mine and his son were Mooned on the walk over to Bringeforth.

I personally take jbock's route: 501 out of LYH, 64, 60, 20, 33, 19, 79 into Morgantown. Whichever way you take, grab a hotel along the highway before getting into town. The spots along 68 have been mentioned. Not 79, places like Bridgeport, Clarksburg and Fairmont may be options. In Morgantown hotels books months in advance, beginning as soon as schedule comes out.

Places to eat: Oliverio's, Provoloni's, Colasante's, Waterfront Hotel (incidentally a great place to stay if you can get a room!), BW3, Wings Ole (killer burrito's and wings!).

And I know Cider already mentioned it, but you must try a pepperoni roll at some point during your trip. If you come up I-79, stop at the convenience store/Arby's combo in Flatwoods. Place offers about five different brand. I traveled through about a month ago and tried one of each.

I'm glad nobody takes you seriously on this site.

As most of you know, WVU is my second favorite team, and yes there's some knuckleheads there but it's really no different then any other game. In fact I was harassed more at the NC State game in 2011 then the WVU game in 2009.
