From the outside looking in, it seems to me that JB is handling things professionally. I imagine it's very difficult to maintain confidentiality and guard a potential coaches' privacy when there are other AD's looking to fill their vacant HC positions.

JB’s metrics for a new coach are already well known, but personally I would emphasize ethics (vet the potential hire in every possible way to avoid a UTK situation) and education (does he have a proven track record of success with student athletes).

Also, LU is a national brand. If the $1 million figure is accurate, they should be able to attract interest from anywhere in the U.S. among the coaching ranks. Someone with previous ties to the school isn’t a necessity. I’d be most interested in a coach that has strong connections to the best recruiting hotspots in America. Coaching is one thing, but it all starts with getting talented players into your program.

LU is an awesome place and it’s time to build a quality program that is competitive every year. Go Flames!

The more I hear about Tyndall's fast and loose attitude toward NCAA rules the more I wonder now if there wasn't something fishy going on with Bond's transferring there, especially coming just a few days after his likely starting PG tore his ACL in a pickup game. Like maybe a PC to his HS coach. "Hey Drew; listen, I know UTK didn't show your boy Bonds a lot of love when he was recruited, but things have changed. We could use him now if you think he might want to come here." Maddox could have taken it from there. It was clear as crystal in his interviews after the transfer that he thought Braxton sold himself short signing with Liberty.

With the resources UTK has, one would certainly think so, but then again, the same could have been said last year and look what happened. I think Hart gets a bit of a pass on that one because Martin's departure was sudden and unexpected, and he made a rushed decision. He is going to take his time and utilize a search firm and probably will get it right this time.

They were paying Tyndall 1.6 mil/yr and his contract specifies there is no buyout if he is terminated for cause because of NCAA violations at UTK or elsewhere. The new coach will be very well paid.

Correct. Supposedly Bonds has been impressive in practices, but the new guy will not have seen that, and he very likely has a PG he will want to sign. Less likely Braxton will get PT, and MUCH less chance of a scholarship for next year. Theoretically, he could even lose his walk-on spot, but not likely.

And for the record, the interviews are underway and include some names that we haven't discussed in this thread. And for those who think I am holding out, I haven't been told who these mystery candidates are. I've just been told by sources that there are names we haven't uncovered.
