I would hope that next coach is a man that fits the mission of the school. I get a kick out of post re guys that are Catholic and if they come to LU they will have to clear up their language etc... Heck my brother is Catholic and as saved as I am. Those are all deal breakers because it's not within the mission of the school. As an asst maybe but as the head of the program I would hope that JB will find the right MAN for the job that can train young champions for Christ. Always fun to post I'm going fishing now.

Nope.
I suspect Levelle is our guy who was vetoed for his "brand" of Christianity. All the faith references I have seen on his website and Twitter are Bible verses and quotes from Daily Bread, which of course would fit in fine. If I were to guess based on his overall persona and penchant for self-promotion I would say he may be into some form of prosperity gospel, which would be a deal-breaker at LU.

Jeff is taking his time on this one. According to Lang this morning we are still likely a couple weeks away still.

Neo, Why do you think Mckay and Meyer have a better than average chance ?

Larry Davis - Cincinnati Interim head coach
Russell Turner - UC Irivine Head coach

But what I find most interesting is that LU was ready to back the truck up and offer a million dollar contract to a head mens basketball coach. WOW! If we are willing to spend that kind of money , our candidate pool just got a lot bigger than Meyer , Mckay, and Lutz.

Good Work Manson.

To be fair, others can try but Prohm is probably the only coach we would have paid that kind of money.

Russell Turner is an interesting candidate. He has really turned things around at Irvine, winning 65 games in the last 3 years and going first to the CIT, then the NIT and this year to the big dance. I also like that he has 6 years in the NBA as an assistant with Golden State.

He may want to leave there given the student council voted to ban the American flag on campus because it is a symbol of intolerance.

Flameshaw brought his name up here yesterday and Manson has mentioned him on FlamesNation. His resume blows away any other candidate we have mentioned here. I believe he is Catholic, which covers a wide range, so it may be worth talking to him to find out more about his personal beliefs.

Living in the DR and having traveled all over Latin America, I have interacted with born-again Catholics who are some of the most vibrant and dedicated Christians I have ever met. I have also met some who could be best described as idol-worshiping pagans. I know Doc, who at one time was staunchly anti-Catholic, changed his stance almost completely after finding common ground in the anti-abortion movement and also meeting some born-again Catholics.

Turner also has Virginia roots. He was born in Roanoke and graduated from Hampden-Sydney, where he is still the all-time leading scorer with 2,272 points. Since we apparently are interested, he must also be looking for a house with a pool.

if Duggar is hired at Citadel and VMI somehow wants Allison back as HC, he said his first call is to Liberty to schedule a game between VMI & LU so he can try to beat the hell out of the Flames.

that would be epic to watch. especially if LU rehire Meyer & RD together.
Less than zero chance that happens.

Back to Turner; prior to this year UC-Irvine had not been to the NCAA tournament in 40 years. To put it in perspective, LU has been 3 times during that period, and we were only D1 a little more than half of that time.

Turner wouldnt be the first Roanoke Native to have great success in the Big South. Greg Marshall.

He is a favorite of mine so far. Just looking the prelims.

I like him too. Only 44, local roots, a winner at a program with a mostly losing history, high major assistant and NBA experience to boot. I suspect you could learn a lot coaching under Dave Odom and Don Nelson.

After checking the records I realized that Irvine's previous 4 NCAA appearances in the 60s and 70s were all at the D2 level. This year under Turner was their first ever trip to the dance.

Its so surprising that we offered ONE MILLION DOLLARS, to a coach for basketball. Crazy! Id be interested to know how much Turner is making now, and how much is Arizona State willing to pay their new coach.
