RD was apparently behind the petition years ago. Perhaps Grant is behind this new petition. :)
No. Grant has class.

RD absolutely made his desire to be the coach known to folks in high places.

Instead of expecting everything to be spoon fed to you, engage your brains and look into what I tell you. Should be pretty easy to figure out for some of you.

BSK seems to grasp certain things.

Sounds like as usual RD tried to circumvent the process. If the folks in high places he made his desires known to weren't named Jeff Barber, I trust their response was to give him Jeff's contact information, or better yet the search firm's.

Wow, I have another Flame Fans Award nomination for you Neo. "Captain Smarty-Pants".

Some of us are here as fans of Liberty basketball who are genuinely interested in learning as much as possible about how the selection process is going and who will be our next head coach. Oh, I could read your passive aggressive bits and scraps and speculate as to who you are talking about as well as the next guy. It's not hard to see who is in a good position to be particular right now because they currently have a good job and better prospects or a fat contract buyout. I'm really not the least bit interested in speculating as to who doesn't think their "brand of Christianity" fits with ours, but I would say they probably have no idea how diverse and accepting LU is in that regard, (provided we are actually talking about Christianity).

I don't know if meyer is the right guy for the job or not. He might be great. But what is it about LU basketball history that makes us keep looking for someone with a previous association with us? We're not UNC that seems to only be able to sift through the Dean coaching tree. We've made the tournament 3 times in decades of d1 eligibility. All 3 times as a happy-to-get-blown-out-by-20 seed. Perhaps, just maybe, the best Coach for the job hasn't had anything to do with being literally a bottom 300 program.

Ahhh the petition. My poor roommate was approached by someone asking him to sign said petitio. He laughed and asked why he would do that? She responds by saying he was her dad. Awkward.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the good old days. I got a call from a pretty high-profile person asking me to sign that first petition. Let's just say if my name got on there, it was forged.
When Jeff was here previously, he had a pretty heavy anchor to drag, that I am certain would not be the case this time around if he were chosen.
I am just glad that we have a fair amount of interest in the job and will trust the search committee to pick the right guy.

I know many of the players signed the petition, at least it's been said that many of the players signed the petition. I wonder if a certain former player - who these days would make a nice assistant - put his pen to that paper.

That decision wasn't made by the candidate.

I don't disagree with most of this. The new coach doesn't have to have a tie to Liberty. With that said, Meyer has a resume that fits what we are looking for. He has had success here when the school had less money and stricter rules. I think it could be a good fit.

And it may be the only way to reverse the Curse of Randy Dunton.

Why would anyone want Meyer or McKay back after the way they left. Jeff Meyer quit on the team two weeks before the first game of the season, then told everyone he had been let go. He then lied to Bill Roth, the radio announcer of Virginia Tech, saying that the assistant coach had forced him out. McKay left only a few days after saying that Liberty was the place God wanted him to be. Layer was here as an assistant and left for "greener pastures", then Barber brought him back. How did that work out? No more talk of Meyer or McKay here any more.

That wasn't a lie. That whole deal with RD and the petition has to be one of the most unfortunate stories of Liberty athletics. It's a good thing few people know about it.

^^^^^^^ Interesting first post. I would say you probably need a better source of information regarding the first half of your comment. I can't say I blame McKay for his move. Looking back, he certainly made the right decision. People change their minds all the time, nothing wrong with that............. you married?

Lutz - Allison, with a funky contract that names Jason head coach in 4 years.Thats my guess.

The Petition. Its hard to appreciate the athlectic department we have now unless you know where we were just 20 some years ago.

If what Neo is stating about potential candidate not being hired because his "brand" of Christianity does not fit, Good for JB. However it puts the preasure on Lutz or future head coach to walk the line. Its possible we offer Lutz the job the week before the sweet16. I would guess we here something before Friday.

The new Coach does not need to have previous ties to LU.

Turner Gill, Jim Toman and Dot Richardson did not have previous ties to the University.

In reality, it may be best if new Coach has never set foot on Liberty Mountain.

Off topic but basketball related.

If defense wins championships where is UVA?

Carry on? To win a tournament you have to have players do things that not normal, such as Trice making 3's. Evan Wessel makng 3's for the Shockers, Cardinals making shots vs N Iowa, etc etc..

You guys need to hire a coach before you end up with Meyer as the boss and RD as the assoc Head Coach again.
