Pretty good point assuming that we would still be in the BSC (or the SBC for that matter) 5 years from now. Put us in C-USA and it could be a different story. LU in a significantly better basketball conference could be a "destination" job for the right young coach.

It's not yet though and won't be within the next month so that doesn't really matter.

3-4 years from now Jeff will be a senior citizen. I'm quite sure in applying for the HC job at Liberty he is looking at it as coming full circle to the only HC job he has held. If he is successful he won't be going anywhere. If you are somehow comparing Dale Layer's tenure at LU to Meyer's and insinuating hiring JM is comparable to bringing DL back at some future time, you need to check your facts. Jeff went 259-206 at Liberty while going through the difficult process of transitioning up a level 3 times from NCCAA to NAIA to D2 to D1. He was 58-34 in the BSC. On leaving Liberty he went on to be instrumental in helping build mid-major powerhouses at Winthrop and Butler, followed by a series of high-major assistant coaching jobs. Layer went 82-113 (about 20 of the wins against lower level schools) and 45-59 in the BSC. I've heard people say that hiring Mel Hankinson started the demise of LU basketball. No. It began a year earlier when some arrogant people who didn't realize what they had forced Jeff Meyer out thinking they could do better, even with the limited resources the school had at the time. The last minute power play was made possible when his top assistant agreed to be interim coach. Worst move in LU athletics history.

Olldflame is right. LU basketball jumped the shark as soon as that power play was made. Sadly, the individual seen as responsible was given two stints as LU head coach. It's only fair that Meyer gets his second stint as head coach.

Wasn't he invoking the rule based on the end of the quote from PAFlame? Different HC, same rule?

EDIT: I guess PAFlame also used Jeff Meyer.

Care to elaborate on the second part?
One of them said no thanks. The other's brand of Christianity didn't fit with ours.

They brought up something in the petition that could be overlooked if you just look at his work history. Perhaps the most impressive thing on his resume is being selected for the job he never got to take as coach of the 2 time defending champion Gators because Donovan changed his mind. It indicates how highly the people at Florida thought of the work he did in his long tenure as an assistant there to offer him that job with only a couple of years experience as a HC at VCU.

let me take a guess after 2 weeks of HC vacancy:

Grant said no thanks
Prohm just laughed and said get real
Meyer & Radebaugh are begging
RD is still trying
Lutz keeps winning

I wonder if Lorenzo Romar would leave for Liberty??? (thinking out loud) hes friends with RMK

Probably right on Grant.
Prohm has a good job and a shot at Alabama (his alma mater), but I don't think coaches are laughing at this job. Between the salary, budget, facilities and relatively easy path to the dance every year, it's actually a pretty sweet gig.
Radebaugh can beg all he wants. Looks like Meyer really wants the job, but he may have waited too long.
Do you actually think RD applied?
We could lose Lutz to a better offer now, especially if the Pack keeps winning.
Romar? PAC-12 to BSC is a bit too big of a step down. It does make me think of a guy we talked about in 07, who was Romar's assistant at the time, but Cameron Dollar is only 78-103 in 6 years as HC at Seattle.

Why withhold names if you know why they didn't work out? Which coaches are no longer in consideration?

RD was apparently behind the petition years ago. Perhaps Grant is behind this new petition. :)
