Actually I plan on visiting the Alamo while I'm there. We didn't learn much about the Mexican-American war in school, except that it was when Virginians liberated Texas from Mexico or something along those lines :-p

It was primarily Tennesseans helping Texians & Tejanos but I see you working. San Antonio is a fantastic place to visit. The Alamo sits just off the Riverwalk and the city is the epicenter of TexMex.

General Zachary Taylor was a Virginian :D

I won't get to see much of the city on Tuesday, but Thursday I will definitely try and see some of the sights. I love history, which is good since I grew up in Virginia and am looking forward to an opportunity to see/experience some of it that tends to get barely a mention in the history books. Hindsight being 20/20, maybe we should've taken over all of Mexico after we won that war

You are confusing your wars, Atrain. Zachary Taylor may have been born in Virginia, but he grew up a homeschooler in Kentucky and was nowhere near Texas in the war for Independence. He didn't roll into Corpus Christi until the arguably unjust Mexican-American War.

What I love most about San Antonio is that is a legitimately old city in the U.S. Sitting in a state where anything still standing over 100 years old is considered a historic landmark, San Antonio is dripping in history. Of course, postie will have thoughts otherwise if he stumbles by this thread.

Between dyslexia and everything American Revolution and Civil War being pounded into my head for the first 29 years of life, I do have an excuse for confusing the Texan War for Independence w/ the Mexican-American war.

Got to see the Flames in action down in San Antonio yesterday. 6-1 win over Incarnate Word and 8-1 over ranked in Division II St. Mary's (since they're a division II school, so we used Division II rules and scoring format).

UTSA has just gotten back into the rankings, so Thursday is a huge match.

Didn't get to see much of it. McCollough had some interesting little shops, but between the airport, car rental process (had to wait an hour to get my car which ended up being a minivan due to overbooking) and the matches, didn't have a chance to explore. That will change tomorrow.

Did the Riverwalk, visited the Alamo. I think San Antonio is a nice place. The people there also know how to drive, which is unlike people in Dallas (unless they're originally from somewhere else).

8 out of 10 Texans are from somewhere else. This place was vacant 40 years ago. But us Northerners come pouring in for opportunity. Glad you were able to get a taste of what makes San Antonio cool. "Where did you eat?" is always the first question from fellow Texans after someone visits SA. So, please spill the details.

On Tuesday I ate lunch at Olmos Bharmacy, a diner designed to look like an old-time pharmacy/lunch counter that had soda jerks. I had dinner in the airport at Gervin's.

On Thursday, I just ended up eating at the Hard Rock Cafe. I normally try to get the classic shot glass from every town that has a Hard Rock, but don't normally eat there (average food for above average prices), but was hungry and the food did smell good plus it wasn't crowded.

Dinner was in the airport again, at Vino Volvo.

That's disappointing. When you were at Hard Rock you were about a block or so from a ton of great places. I did a story inside that Hard Rock a couple of days after Selena was murdered. As a result, every time I pass by there I get "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" stuck in my head.

How was the Ice Man's place at the airport?

I passed a lot of really neat looking places on the Riverwalk and did a walk around after lunch. However, I'm hardly what one would call a foodie.

The Ice Man's place was ok...nothing I'd get excited over.
