I don't mean to be "that guy", but Churchill was never a general. His highest rank was lieutenant colonel, unless you're talking about his time as Secretary of War. And eventually, of course, he became PM.
Thanks for the history check coach...my point is that while its great he quotes scripture and talks a good game on his twitter feed, I wanna see his "real life persona" operates. anybody can quote scripture, and it doesnt make you anymore a Christian. I mean I can quote Ulysses S. Grant til iI'm blue in the face. it doesnt make me a good military man or president.

That hole you have been digging just keeps getting deeper BJ. You need to put the shovel away.

Of 14 players (I assume 1 is a walk-on) only 2 were recruited out of American HSs along with 1 from Norway, 3 JUCOs and 8 D1 transfers. Hard to argue with the results, but I'm not sure that approach will work at Liberty. Only 2 players from NC, and one of them is a transfer from FGCU.

ATrain, besides the difference between Raleigh and Durham pointed out by flameshaw, I think we should also note that you and coach Moton are not exactly in the same demographic.

Ben howland is still unemployed. Wonder if jb is gonna make a run at him. I mean it's part of his repertoire to go after Big names so...

Baylors Jerome Tang just followed jb so maybe another name?

I don't think Ben Howland is looking for a house with a swimming pool.

OK, we have enough new guys on here to make that a bit too much of an inside joke. During the coaching search which led to RMKs hiring JB compared a coaching job at LU to a house with a swimming pool because it's not for everybody. Notice how I cleverly avoided the need to invoke the rule Purple?

I'm not big in this 'self promotion' stuff. a lot of coaches and people in general do great things or good deeds but don't have to be ' hey look at me' about it.
Boom. If he's that big of a self promoter, he'll leave us just as quick as he'd leave NCCU.

Oh I got the pool reference and chuckled. I also am misty eyed proud at how you obeyed the rules.

Come on SJ, it's 2015. You of all people should know the value of a web presence for a professional with any kind of ambition. We can't shy away from a hire that could be a home run just because we are afraid they may leave. Anyone who comes here and has success is going to get offers, and one of them may be too good to pass up. If we make retention too high a priority we will end up limiting ourselves to 50 plus and mediocre.

Not sure where to post this, but since it mentions someone in post above figured I would type it here:

As I sat and watched the quarterfinal games (all of them) why is it that the 2 coaches(radebaugh & gee), who are the most vocal of any regarding their religion, spirituality, beliefs, or holier than tho attitude have the most drama or get the most emotional after or during games? (btw if Radebaugh doesn't win an NIT game he still hasn't won 20 in his 10 yrs at CSU)

I mean did anyone see the after game stuff or near end that I did?? almost a brawl. barclay acts like someone stole his favorite toy, Gee acts like a moron most anytime, but especially after they won. then they give each other a fake hug and chat. I'm sure i know what it was about (the dunk) but I wasn't in the handshake line so i don't know.

anyways -- respect to Tim Craft for being cool hand Luke, Nick mcDevitt for never shedding a stress sweat at all, mike jones is always gracious every year he loses in the first round, cliff does a good composed job.

LU needs to find a Tim Craft type demeanor wise.

That's an interesting observation. I doubt there's much of a correlation between the emotion of their faith and their emotion on the basketball court ... at least not in the overall. These individuals are probably simply emotional beings, and yes emotion can sometimes be a detriment to one's witness.

I can't help but think of the sideline during the 90s at LU. The head coach had a calm, cool demeanor, while his top assistant was going off the rails. So far off the rails some nights he was two articles of clothing short of a strip trease. First the jacket came off, then shirt was untucked, then the tie was loosened up. At some point along the way his hair got a little out of shape. It was quite embarrassing.

They shall remain nameless since I don't want the gallery to scold me for mentioning them by name. :)

But yeah, a Tim Craft type is one that I prefer.

I actually disagree with just getting a "Tim Craft" type, especially just because it works at Gardner-Webb. There is no guarantee that style of personality will a) mesh with the personality and culture of this institution and basketball program b) yield the same results.

Good coaches come in all demeanors, as do Christian men of high character. Personally I think the Flames need someone with some fire right now, but without question being a proven winner is the most important qualification.

That was a wild scene. Afterward, Jayson took some responsibility for it, saying it was both teams being competitive, heat of the moment, etc., etc., that his team needed to conduct itself better. Barclay, in a passive aggressive way, talked about how his team conducted itself with class and then refused to comment on the skirmish. So he basically said it was Longwood's fault, which is BS. Both teams were yapping all day long, and Nimley was as bad of an offender as anyone. I don't know what it is about the acoustics of that gym, but you can hear EVERYTHING on press row, much more so than at the Vines. Something about the walls amplifies things. Anyway, Saah was out there dropping f-bomb after f-bomb, to the refs, to Quincy Taylor, to his teammates. At one point, he yelled "Get in the f****ng game!" to Cedrick Bowen, and and when Ced didn't hear him, he repeated himself. Paul Gombwer nearly came to blows with Aaron Wheeler after a foul. Those guys melted down spectacularly. It's part of the beauty of watching a one-bid tournament. The raw emotion is incredible.

There's a lot of truth to that. The intensity is ratcheted up, so much on the line and quality of play is often so much better than in the regular season, in the one-bid tournaments more so than in multi-bid leagues.

I hope we hire the most spiritual man out there. Please bring in someone from the religion department, like Hindson, to coach. I don't care about winning, just find a pastor to lead the team.

If you wanna go that route. Ed Gomes is clearly the choice

lol

Eddie has been away from the game so long he may know more about football than basketball now just by osmosis. If he had the right assistants to handle the xs and os I think he could do well with the motivation and recruiting. I don't know how many games they would win, but they would have a great time!
